I watch this before every football tournament and I love Ricky Tomlinsons portrayal of a manager hopelessly out of his depth.

Any other football films that you're a fan of?

East is East

It's very nostalgic for me

It was filmed on the street I was brought up on

I recognise the many of the characters too

The fish wife friend especially

"and wash your friggin' curtains ya dirty cow"

The only football film I think I've watched is The Damned United, I liked that.

There was a TV series follow up called Mike Bassett Manager. He had lost the England job and had had the sack from some club jobs before getting a job managing a fictitious club -Wirral County -at the bottom of League 2. Loved it!

Loved Mike Bassett.

At the other end of the scale.. Bend It Like Beckham is an absolute shit show of a film. Had to sit through it once at school. Longest lesson of my life.

I didn't really like the TV show. There was also an attempt at getting a sequel film in the same style; Mike Bassett: Interim Manager. But it failed it goal target on Kickstarter and it never progressed.

Didn’t think much of Mike Bassett when I first watched it. However after rewatching it a couple of years ago I realised it was better than I thought it was.

A nice piss take about football than being snobbish about it.
