Not very sexy, but I'm due to have one in the not too distant future (NHS waiting lists notwithstanding!)

What were the experiences of people that have had them, if you don't mind sharing.

Epidural or GA, recovery times, length of time off work etc.

Thanks in advance

little house on the praire

My friend had her hip replaced last week. Epidural and she was in and out same day.

She's in a bit of pain but that's all I can tell you

I've heard epidural is better as they can start your pain relief earlier.

I’ve had three, 2 total(left & right) and 1 revision on the right one due to fracturing it on black ice. Got an infection and had two more ops on it and still dislocated occasionally. Had epidural each time, awakeish while the hammered and tugged on the joint. Weird looking up and your legs at a 90° angle lol. In hospital around 3 days for the hip operations but 3 weeks for the infection which I now need antibiotics for life to fight it. 4 month recovery but could be sooner depending on what job you go back to do. Will have to have at least 2 more I would think due to wear and tear

My mums just had her second, recovery on the first was quicker than this one movement wise, epidural on both, she was awake eating lunch just 2&1/2 hours after the op, bright as a button no problems

Forgot to say she’s in her 80’s so guess you will be back flipping and cartwheeling a whole lot sooner

Make sure you do the exercises the docs ask you to do.

Ex didn't. She had bursitis and has never been right since.

I work with autistic children, so I need to be fairly mobile. Hopefully I'll be back up and running within a few weeks.

I couldn't do cartwheels before, so I'm looking forward to being able to do cartwheels
