Charities are warning of the growing trend of gender reveal parties, where parents want to reveal the sex of their unborn baby. Now first we had baby showers which is a great way for an expectant mum to enjoy a glass of wine with friends and receive lots of attention and of course free gifts. Now we have gender reveal parties where again, the expectant mum reveals the sex of the baby for some unknown reason and often use pink for a girl and blue for a boy as the theme. Charities are warning of the growing trend of doves and pigeons being dyed pink or blue and released to announce and celebrate the news. Woke mums even use yellow dye so not to stereotype and pigeon hole the unborn baby. The RSPCA say a dyed pigeon is more visible to birds of prey and venom from the dye could harm the bird. Now call Tom old fashioned but what planet are these so called parents on. If they do this for a newborn who hasn't a clue what's happening then what will they inflict on the poor child when it's born..
Tom remembers the days when fathers paced up and down a hospital corridor smoking a Havana and nurses keeping the men well away until it was safe and appropriate to see the babyand reveal the good news that it was a boy.
What's going on here. It's all over the news. |

I personally don't get it, just another American thing coming over.
I must admit the gender disappointment you see in some of the videos I wouldn't want my child looking back to see mum or dad hugely disappointed at the reveal.
And yes I get gender disappointment is real but don't film the reveal for all to see if there's a chance that can happen.

If we’re following the American trend (which of course we fucking are) then dyed pigeons are the least of our troubles.
American gender reveal parties can be detected on the Richter scale, if the way they compete for attention continues they’ll be celebrating the event with orbital missile strikes.

Had my last child in 2005..already had 2 boys my "gender reveal" (the scan) I remember it well, she announced "a boy!" I flopped my head back and said "another one!" My husband at the time laughed awkwardly and said "you aren't meant to say that!". So I'm pretty glad they wasn't a thing when my kids were small because you can bet you life there would be a video of me saying that.
For the record, I absolutely love having all boys! X |

Good job we didn't have gender reveal when we found out having twins as scan said your having twin girls wow I thought (really o fuck) when they were born first came out a lovely girl second one came out who we was calling Samantha then turned into sam as it was a boy  |

I know technology has advanced massively since mine was born. Scans were inconclusive (legs were crossed). My ex was convinced she was having a boy. We both chose a name. My ex chose a boys name, I chose a girls name.
When my daughter was delivered into this world, all her mum could say was 'it was supposed to be a boy!' |

A friend of mine did this, she has got kids some late teenagers and some small ish children, when her teens was that age, all this wasn't a thing, she did it with her youngest, I actually thought it was quite nice for her to experience motherhood during a different "time".
I've got another friend who is expecting a baby late in life (around my age), again everything we did when our kids were small, is mostly out the window now, she planned a gender reveal, she never had one for the others as her youngest is 11, so again she is experiencing motherhood during a different era, that said I've got to the age I am now and never been to a baby shower, gender reveal or a hen party now I come to think of it lol |

The only gender reveal party I ever went to, and I didn't get past the front door.
They told me a "gender reveal party" refers to the baby, so I did feel stupid standing there in my birthday suit. |

Wasn't a thing when I had my girls, we literally knew what we were having because I was high risk and in a clinical trial for my first also, so had a lot of scans so it was hard to not to see what we were having both times.
