It's what the Tories do and have always done. That's why I never ever understand anyone who is on a low income, or 'working class' (whatever that may mean these days) voting for them. They are voting for their own demise. |

As far as I am aware they cutting taxes on the lower incomes as from next year!
The country is in a financial crisis so needs to claw back money from somewhere and make cuts!
Many haven't received a pay increase, yet utility bills and food bills are rising!
As is the cost of petrol ect!!
It's not just the poorer people that suffering its across the board! |

The country is in a financial crisis because of the grasping greed of the rich. Why should the poor pay for that - again? And really a miniscule tax cut for the poor is hardly worth it when they just up the tax on fuel, and where bills rise astronomically.
I don't see any million/billionaires suffering the same as the poor - goodness me how are they to buy the next yacht?
As for clawing back money - what everyone fails to appreciate is that benefit shakeups usually end up COSTING money to apply! The CSA is a very very good example of actually causing suffering and penury to many and actually not saving the country anything whatsoever.
Still, the media never let the truth get in the way of a good story. |

I wouldn't say it was only the greedy top - that just brought an unworkable system to a crux. There has been an issue of balance - and there is a massive problem with a sense of entitlement - and I agree with the principle of 'making work pay', and also with simplifying the benefits system. I also mostly agree with the incentive to reduce wasted empty bedrooms, and making the public sector more efficient - all caused from a time of lazy prosperity.
But EACH government fails to effectively prevent the widening gap between rich and poor - this one least of all and it's a hard argument to make credible when rich people make excuses for rich people.
What doesn't help is political parties (and the muppets that blindly follow them) taking the opposite views purely for the sake of politics - for nearly all of these debates there's a perfectly sensible solution somewhere in the middle. |

Maybe suffering is the wrong word, and I don't mean the mega rich are suffering! It's always been the same the same divide between the rich and the not so well off!
I agree in getting people who can work off benefits and back into work! I have a son in law who hasn't done a days work neither has his parents, they could work if they chose to! But he has said to us that unless he gets a well paid job, they would be worse off!! |

Agree - to be fair listening to one or two you would think they were suffering, but yes all relative (and they're not).
And to be fair to this Government - much as I despise them, it was always going to be a hard task to start adjusting the benefits system and the related culture. The 'it's my right'/'that jobs below me'/'blame the government' mentality is going to be tough to change - but it needs to. |

Was listening to the radio and one comment came up that people with the extra room tax will move out go into private rented and keep the extra room but won't lose the benefits so how does that help the economy??? |

I think that's what SOME on benefits miss. As I said on the other thread just because you have a job doesn't mean you're not feeling the pinch you just have to tighten your belt further and get on with it! |

we both work. tra got made redundant but was lucky enough to find another job albeit on 4k year less. I had to drop my prices by 15% to stay competitive. We're 9k a year worse off than we were 3 years ago. I daren't factor in price rises to that. I don't wanna know but its starting to hurt now.a lot. |

"Iain Duncan Smith says he can live on £53 a week so surely we all can?
I'd love to see him try!
"
Is that including running a car and paying rent bills and food |
