Remote tribe given internet

A reclusive tribe in the Amazon finally got hooked up to the internet, thanks to Elon Musk — only to be torn apart by social media and pornography addiction, elders complain.
Brazil’s 2,000-member Marubo tribe has been left bitterly divided by the arrival of the Tesla founder’s Starlink service nine months ago, which connected the remote rainforest community along the Ituí River to the web for the first time
That is messed up....considering (I believe) that the internet is the cause of alot of today's issues why on earth would anyone do this? |

A story as old as time. Some parts of society see all progress as bad and some parts embrace it. I guess that's what's happened with these people.
I don't know why we'd want to keep people as a kind of museum piece really. |

The Internet is just a media, blaming the Internet for ANYTHING is like blaming Air for The Birdy Song, just because it allows it to be heard.

I wonder if they'll address the problem of porn addiction and aggressive behaviour by men or do what we're all doing and ignore it until it's too late whilst complaining about it |

They noted the younger members were lazy as a result of internet. Some parents were thankful for the educational opportunities the internet afforded their families. Others worried about the addictive nature and how children reacted to the idea of being without internet.
To think they walked through the depths of the Amazon with the satellites on their backs to bring this to their communities in an effort to speed up emergency response, only to see it affect them so much in only nine months was mad. It reminds me of an article from some years back saying technology heads such as Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, and others delay and restrict screen time for their children for decades. |

That's sort of my point. Human nature seems to be that we're unable to be proactive in the face of obvious problems. It's been recognised that the internet is problematic in some respects and some of these people are complaining about it but I don't know if they're doing anything about it.
Much like all of us. We're all moaning that kids have too much screen time but buying them the screens and not restricting their access in many cases or checking what they're looking at. |

Ultimately, technology will be our undoing regardless of the benefits we will get in the meantime. Just seems a shame to introduce it to a population that was doing just fine without it

Washing machines are not good bedfellows with water meters or, for that matter, electricity meters.
I have a washing machine which isn't even plumbed in. i just have it there so visitors don't think I am abnormal. |

"A reclusive tribe in the Amazon finally got hooked up to the internet, thanks to Elon Musk — only to be torn apart by social media and pornography addiction, elders complain.
That’s awful, while it’s impossible in some ways to halt progress depending on how you define it I agree with your comments

"A reclusive tribe in the Amazon finally got hooked up to the internet, thanks to Elon Musk — only to be torn apart by social media and pornography addiction, elders complain.
That’s awful, while it’s impossible in some ways to halt progress depending on how you define it I agree with your comments
Is it Mr Musk trying to play God …. ? Mr Musk is extending his audience
Who is Elon Musk and who constitutes his audience?" some wealthy American or canadian i think introduced Tesla automobiles to us, a technological whizz kid |

Think this is Musk just fulfilling his god complex.
Should be like Star trek where they don't make stuff known to the locals till they are at place to cope with it. It will only be a recipe for things getting worse in their community. |

Lmao Christ, mere weeks of internet exposure and it’s the last days of Rome.
What exactly have we all become desensitised to?
Mind you that bear that did a whole shipment of sniff in one sitting ended up having a career in Hollywood so maybe they were just unlucky?
Although…are we sure they weren’t just revolted by Elon Musk? He’s a worse example of repellent western civilisation than the internet. |

"Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day, give him the internet and he'll wank himself to death watching porn "
I lose track of time sometimes but unlikely to die from too much porn. Or wanking. |

Surely, blindness is the traditional outcome?
