Do you track your workout progress?

From the land of haribos.

In you know one of those little black and white sort of notebooks to track all the sets in, some like to track every set, every weight that they are doing comparing themselves to their last week so that they can make sure that they are you know incrementally progressing, in terms of the weight, like adding five pounds to their top sets on every you know compound movement, which you know all well and good.

But you know I just dont think it needs so much action to really track and make sure, all you are doing there is like ok. I need to make sure that I go as hard as I did last week, but if you are already flooring it on the gas in terms of your intensity, then you dont need to make sure that you are a little ahead of where you were before,

What is your view about it and do you track all your set or just some of it? I dont really track it as I have a mental notebook so to speak as I know where I am training wise and that I am making progress without needing tracking it

I use the TrainHeroic app and track all working sets. It's quite good and has a huge range of exercises and it's very easy to make your own bespoke ones.

I like data so I'm happy logging numbers

I've only started using weights 6 months ago and I track every weight and set. I really enjoy looking back from time to time to see the progress I'm making

I don't track a thing, I lift, run and party. No injuries ever. I just train what feels heavy on the day and tbh am happy. Lots of people my age in much worse shape.

Have always tracked in past by using a notebook but these days use the phone app RepCount, I track every work set, the weight used and reps achieved so can know I’m aiming to beat next week

Track your training on the Strava app

If it’s not on Strava it didn’t happen…

I don't track it but I like to take a couple pictures to look back on in a couple months time to see what progress I'm making, it's good for me to see what I'm achieving as it makes me feel good to carry on making those changes knowing I'm making a difference.

I must get back on it soon

I use an app but I am really just using it to remember what programme I have put together - remembering all my previous weights and set/rep numbers is just too much of a faff.

I use Jefit. It’s a bit clunky but the workout log feature is really good for weightlifting.

Less so for cardio, HIIT and things like that.

I've been really struggling to get into the routine again, badly twisted my ankle a couple of years back and ever since then I just not had the dive I once had.

I admire all of you tracking each set and rep.

I do track and monitor, but less formally and religiously and try to listen to what my body is saying before I push it too hard.

I find life throws variables at me that interfere, diet, hydration, sleep, stress, injury. I’m always training whilst managing my way through these.

What are each of you training for that are tracking so closely? A competition? A PB? I’m interested to know.

A few reasons mate

Always found for myself progressive overload works better than anything for muscle growth so tracking weight/sets/reps Important for ensuring progress

I perform far better on a set if I have a target rep number to beat will achieve more reps vs not having a target

It makes training more fun always trying to progress and beat last weeks markers, getting bigger and stronger is like stretching a rubber band the scone you let off the tension it starts to slip back to its original state

I don’t anymore but when I was doing progressive resistance I absolutely tracked a few data points to ensure every week increases were made. Oh my track the 3rd or 4th set weight and reps of the big compounds, nothing more , it’s not necessarily and it’s a distraction to collect all the details

Totally agree , If you’re doing it right it works like a dream, and the right levels of eating and resting /sleeping will happen effortlessly because you’re putting your body under so much strain

Did for a while and then realised I'm over 40 and that all that actually matters to me is how my clothes feel when worn and that I look good with or without them on! Fitness wise the things I keep tabs on are more cardio based like my ability to run 10k without much thought or play sports without feeling like I'm about to die.

I largely do it to keep close track of my progress and seem to perform better by doing it.
