Pride Month Yippee!!

Pride is important because someone tonight thinks they are better off dead rather than being lesbian/gay/bisexual/trans/queer
I was that person once…now look at me! I’m here, I’m queer, and whatever the rest of it is.
Just because I’m lesbian, it doesn’t make me less of a bein’!

My daughter came out to me recently that she's Lesbian.
I'm so proud of her, it's been a struggle for her and losing her mother who was bi didn't help.
She's got a girlfriend now too, it's awesome.
Thank you to all those who contribute to pride and creating a beacon of hope, celebration and acceptance.

I look back to when I was a young man and now and the world has, thankfully, changed so much. Hardly anyone bats an eyelid nowadays at someone who is LGBTQ etc. That is a blessing. And when you see Pride celebrations in "real man" cities like Glasgow, then you know it is getting better. At least we are not being thrown off roof tops. |

Pride is important, whether it’s your first or your twentieth!
Understanding that you’re not alone, that there are others like you and finding acceptance is a huge part of what pride is.
I know that some people think that pride isn’t necessary anymore but there is still a huge amount of prejudice and phobia in society. Celebrating our differences and making noise is still important |

Thank you! He's doing a lot better now. He has a really strong group of friends. But you always have that fear.

I’m sorry about your son, but thank you for being such a supportive parent. Supportive parents make the suicide rate amongst LGBTQ teens significantly lower |

Both J's and Midnight's comments highlight several things.
Culturally, politically, we have so much work to do to protect vulnerability, and proactively encourage self-expression.
We also need to grow up about ages people have sexual urges - it's there from birth. If two 12 year olds went through this hell, you can guarantee their sexuality had been pressing on their waking consciousness a long time before.
I went through a rotten time at 6 because I had powerful sexual urges - we really don't deal well with creating safe-spaces for sexuality to grow and flourish.
But thanks to things like Pride, Stonewall etc, it's slowly, painfully changing.
Nothing can bring that 12 year old back, and J's son is in about the best environment he can have to grow, cry, and flourish, but he won't be out of the woods for some time to come.
No world should be structured the way ours has been. |
