No.... The opposite. Your black isn't cracking at all. Love that for you.
P.S I'm currently booking a luxury hair appointment. They actually have luxury black hair appointments. The joy I'm going to feel getting my hair steamed, drinking an iced matcha latte and no auntie telling me off for having a soft head. Can not explain how much happiness this discovery brings me. |

I'm better at saying where I was at the time and what I was feeling, rather than remembering my age (May 97 Labour landslide, I was in Hong Kong listening to it and wishing I were in London to celebrate) than July 97 watched Chris Patton hand over HK to China and that saw the end of my sojourn in HK. |

But have you decided how old you are as yet? |

17 - remember it well. Deeply sadly we buried my grandmother on the day of the general election, the first time in my life I saw a non Tory government. I resented being too young to vote while my friends could |

I got it right the second time - six years older than Mr P is currently, so I was 33 (not sure how that can be, cos I am pretty convinced that I am only 28 now) |

Not sure about the sinologist bit. Never learnt Cantonese, my knowledge of China was limited the period period of the Opium Wars, the Boxer Rebellion, early western missionaries, Chiang Kai-shek and Mao Zedong (so basically 1840-1975 - oh throw in 1989 and Tiananmen Sq as that was just before I went to HK).
Jasmine Tea is good, but otherwise I have not touched other tea for around 30 years |

The CLTs (cassette load times) were brilliant. They instilled patience and discipline. You would come home from school and make a beeline for your bedroom and start installing Twin Kingdom Valley (which took an eternity). Then back downstairs again to wash up, eat your supper (or tea), say hello to the vicar † (who would be visiting) and then rush back upstairs with a can of Fresca™ to start playing. (Sometimes you get back upstairs and there would be a syntax error on the loading... and reinstall). |

Or you would get...
Ready
Run
Ready
..With the blue screen and a flashing cursor. It usually meant the program had gotten corrupted.
The best thing about cassette loading was some of them would play a tune while the game was loading. Usually the Ocean Software games.
One loader "Invade-a-load" would let you play a fully functional game of Space Invaders while the actual game was loading in the background.
Simpler times... |

"In 1997 I would have been all of 57 years old,
Old enough to be your Grandfather. "
At last, someone older than me. I thought it wasn't going to happen but decided I should scroll through all the replies just in case!
I was actually 52 and about to get an early retirement deal. Immediate pension, pension lump sum, redundancy lump sum with enhancements and the start of a new life being able to holiday in the winter sun and spend all summer naked locally. Above all, never having to go to work again (not that I ever did very much anyway).
I certainly remember 1997 with affection! |
