I was thinking of putting on some very revealing leather fetishwear, a leather dog mask and allowing myself to be led around the street where kids were present like several people were doing at last years parade here. That would make me feel proud. |

By this, I mean we are lucky to live in a society where we all have the same rights. I'll still support family and friends as I do each day of the year. There is no need for visibility on this scale as it just breeds resentment of people under the Pride flag and that is worrying.

The pride pack came in at work, so I'll be putting that up later if no one else has done it, no one else seemed bothered by it.
We went to a small local pride last year, I'd like to go to a bigger one, I'd love to do Brighton but it's far too peopley for me x |

Same rights but not the tolerance. For me personally I’ve done so many of them they don’t give me a fizz anymore, but they are importantly visibility for young people, those coming out or thinking of coming out, a place for friends and allies to show support. It also sends a message to countries where being gay is illegal or persecuted about our values as a democracy. |

Totally agree. Pre covid my eldest and a group of friends wanted to go to local pride ... some of their friends were too afraid to come out to parents and some parents would have not allowed their kids to go.
I hosted them all at my house, got all the stuff for glitter face painting, flags etc and drove them to the station and back. They were so grateful to have somewhere they were accepted and always welcomed. |

I'm a little sad I won't be in San Diego for pride. That is an amazing weekend - even for a 100% hetero guy like me. I think a month is a bit long for a celebration. Kind of takes the impact away (in my opinion) |

It’s a month as it had to accommodate events at different locations, as well as smaller events outside the celebrations and parades such as job fairs, outreach events, sexual health promotion etc. I usually do one event and I’m done for the month. |

"Happy Pride Month!
I'll be going to Pride in London Saturday 29 June! I was there last year and it was awesome!"
I happened to be in London when Pride was on a couple of years ago (I was seeing a show). Unfortunately I was witness to some horrendous behavior by attendees (public urination, vomiting and defacation, as well as general fuckwit behaviour). I wouldn't broad brush the behaviour, but it was certainly off-putting, and could be seen to reflect poorly on the community (by people who read the daily mail mostly) |

Pride in London needs military style planning and have had many years of trail and error. The success formula now is to have the major (and I mean it's biiiiiig) event on Trafalgar Square because it can be contained for everyone's safety. Bags are checked before going in. It's free.
Then there are those who have traveled from far and wide, overnight busses, no sleep, too much drink and substances. It is proper major event for some people. The body may be young but the abuse can be too much. That sort of behaviour is not only LGBTQ+, I'm sure most summer music festivals have seen their fair share? |

This is why I wouldn't judge a community by the actions of a few. I'm not sure what level of behavior it is to take a crap in the middle of the Strand in front of shoppers and traffic at 5pm though. Or piss on a homeless man's sleeping bag.. or be so inebriated you think you are impervious to moving traffic. And this was just on one stretch of road in the space of an hour while trying to have some food. |

And you are a cool guy who can see people for who they are rather than what they are.
People who pre judge (prejudice) would say, "all gays are like that", which is why Pride is still needed.
My experience was last year when Adam Lambert gave a stooooooonking appearance which was just awesome and totally free!
In the middle of cold dark winter when I'm SAD, I spritz myself with Elizabeth Arden's Sunflower EDT (Sunlight Kiss summer limited edition) replay my vids of the Pride event and it makes me happy. |

The problem here is that people of any persuasion use that particular thing as their personality. It is never limited to just some people you dislike.

Phew. Some late night googling. But here is a link to the website that shows these dog people in Lancaster at the Pride event in 2019.
https://www.doghousestoke.uk/2019/06/23/doghouse-goes-on-tour-to-lancaster-pride/
If the link doesn't work, Google "dog house stoke Lancaster pride" and you'll find it. |

I put all the pride stuff up for work, it's a real 50/50 what folk say about it, some of the old people ask what it is all for and I explain, well you can imagine some of their faces (only a small portion), others are very invested and asked what all the colours mean (I've spent time googling with them), it's been an eye opener but I think a positive one overall so far x |

"At the risk of being accused of being homophobic, I don’t get why people feel the need to shout in the streets about who they have sex with. "
It's something to do with the police storming gay clubs with batons, hurting (killing?) under government approval, creating riots, and oppressing people for living their lives.
As a counter-balance to persecution, you make a bit of noise as a large group to remind idiots that they can't get away with being idiots.
It's also called "democracy" and "freedom" in many places. |

Pride cannot deal with that though. The fight for rights is about recognition from government and is never about influencing emotions and actions of others. That is just a bonus effect.

"At the risk of being accused of being homophobic, I don’t get why people feel the need to shout in the streets about who they have sex with.
It’s just a performance…. Look at us everybody, we’re so gay, snog snog, mince mince! Are you watching us…….Please watch us, we’re so happy!
Actually no one else gives a shit either way these days - who does what with who. People have moved on. It’s not shocking anymore. "
Wow! I actually have no words... must be nice living in ignorance |

Pride isn't a party, it's a protest
Party by all means, but don't take your eye off the cause
The big city Pride events are largely corporate affairs these days
Go to them, but for each one of those you attend, get out into the suburban events too
That is where there are hearts and minds to be won
That is where your presence can make a difference |
