Please someone tell me why this is a thing.
Pay big money to see a band you love.
Spend it getting pissed, queuing at the bar and going for several wee breaks disturbing everyone as you make your way to and from your seat. Crazy |

I was in the pit at a recent Springsteen gig and witnessed people who had smuggled in alcohol in gel bottles.
They finished that before the concert started and one went off to the bar for more.
When he hadn't come back over an hour later his friends went looking for him.
Some time after that he arrived back with the drinks and then spent his time searching for the others.
It just seemed a waste of time and money to me. |

So the moral of the story is they should have smuggled dr*gs instead |

I've really never been one for getting pissed at gigs...in my youth.. used to maybe have some homebrew to drink on the way up...but by my mid twenties i stopped doing even that... pretty much the majority of the gigs I've attended I've been alcohol and drug free...I enjoy them just as much if not more... also have you seen the price of drinks at gigs..!!!! |

Never been d*unk at a gig, think I've only ever d*unk one pint at a concert that I've ever been too.
I never do standing and I've seen the stairs at alot of venues and I'm unstable on my feet when I haven't had a drink, whoever I was with would be shitting themselves if I was pissed lol |

Most people aren’t seeing a band they love. I swear 70% of the audience at gigs are just there to say they’ve been. It’s just a thing to do. Especially at Arenas. |

You’ve obviously never been to see crap bands at Rock City. It’s reasonably priced and you pee in plastic pint glasses and throw them at the band |

Even worse when you're standing and people are so pissed their beer is going everywhere but down their throats!
I'm not a drinker and always enjoy gigs more when I can remember them, and I never begrudge anyone a good time. But I often wonder how people have so much money to spend on beer that gets wasted like that! lol |

Well it depends on what they're doing, doesn't it? Your original post just said they're queueing at the bar and going for a wee every now and then. That's hardly being selfish.
If they're being lairy and causing a nuisance in other ways, then that's a different kettle of fish. |

Do you expect people to just sit in their seat the entire time just to please you?
If there's a lot of people in one place, chances are that some of them will do things that annoy you.
As a great man once said, charge it to the game. |

Getting merry is fine. They're out to have fun!
What is not fine is getting so hammered that you can't make it to the loo to puke and instead do it into the hood of the person in front of you. I loved that jacket, too |

I made a post earlier about who hard and expensive it is to get tickets these days... I do have half a pint because usually, I'm driving, and don't understand why people want to prioritise drinking over the gig.
Its fun to have a few so you're looser, but to some, as an earlier post mentioned, it's another night at Wetherspoons. |

I can never understand why people NEED to get pissed to enjoy themselves. Yes, I've gotten d*unk, really d*unk on the odd occasion, but never intentionally. Different levels of alcohol dependency I guess. |

I don't think I've ever been to a gig without going for a few drinks beforehand. And if I'm at a festival I've definitely drank during the day. I don't see going to a gig is different to a night club. The vast majority of those drinking are fine, there will always be a couple of idiots. |

Yep, we feel the same, buy a t shirt or a record from an actual band member and everything! You never know, it might help pay towards the fuel for them to get home or maybe buy them a bit of supper, I’m (mr) in 3 bands myself so know what it’s like |

D*unk people are found at both places, therefore the situation with d*unk people is the same. Interesting you think that is interesting |

I shall tell the people around not to have so many drinks and dance about OP and if I survive I shall come back and tell you exactly what they said.

I have been to gigs where there have been differing stages of d*unkeness around me.
I have been to gigs where I've enjoyed a few drinks with the people I've been there with, I've been to massive meets pre-gig. I can't say I've ever been off my face at a gig, as personally I don't see the point - if I've gone to see a band and forked out for a ticket, I want to be able to remember it all. Plus drink at gigs have always been super expensive.
Even at festivals I've never been d*unk. The bogs are bad enough without the risk of stumbling!!!
But to each their own. Just don't be so d*unk you end up being a twat. |

If a band is selling merch then they’ll be making a lot more than fuel money. Most merch is created via a deal with a label and/or manufacturers. The bands also only appear on the stands to encourage more sales, not because they’re struggling or because they want to meet fans.
Sounds harsh but it’s the reality for the majority of artists. It’s only tiny bands that will be struggling to the point they can’t afford fuel or food. |

We don't really drink at gigs as we don't want to have to go out to the toilet and miss anything. We were at the Springsteen Sunderland gig last week and on the way out one young guy in front of us was staggering, his companion had to keep grabbing his arm. I don't understand the need to get like that.
I never understood all those spark out on the ground at T in the Park either. Why pay that money for a ticket to miss it all? Just stay home and watch it on the telly. |

There was a woman in her 50s in front of me at the Springsteen Belfast gig who was absolutely pissed out of her head when she entered the venue.
She was really loud and obnoxious, shouting at complete strangers but not only had she managed to get into the pit without a wristband, she had a full bottle of vodka hidden in the knotted sleeve of her jacket.
There were 2 separate security checks on the way in and somehow no-one had seen the bottle or were interested enough to stop her getting in when she could hardly stand up straight.
Some people struggled to get back on the bus afterwards they were so dr*nk which was madness because they got back into their car at the drop-off point.
At least 4 people missed the bus completely because they'd had so much to drink they couldn't find it even though it was less than 500 yards from the exit.
It probably cost them another £100 for a taxi back to where they had also left their cars.
I'm no fun sponge but these were all grown adults with no sense of responsibility. |

2 of the bands I’m in are “tiny bands” as you put it, and most of the bands we go see are on round about the same, I’m not naming any of my bands but check out bands like barbarian hermit, battalions and desert storm etc, they’re all very popular and don’t get anything near as much as a pub cover band for a gig, so they try sell merch so they aren’t having to pay for things out of their own pockets while on tour! Even much bigger bands have to have day jobs! And they’re all fantastic musicians and you will have a great evening of entertainment, please don’t rubbish my comments, I do know what I’m talking about. |

That's corporate gigs. A lot of us go to see lesser known bands. Wouldn't go to a seated gig. Tshirts are twenty quid at the very most, lot of time a tenner. Cds a fiver. Proper music. |
