At what point do you realise you have been sucked in?

No I don't mean liposuction!
Our beliefs about people and situations distort our perspective of what is really happening... and perception is a truth.
Letting go of a belief is often a very difficult thing to do...so what sort of things trigger a change in perspective? |

Sometimes people on here let slip a comment or _iew which
totally shocks me with their point of _iew. That is when I
reconsider my perception of them and generally avoid them or block. Superficially beautiful people on the outside, ugly people inside. I'm self aware enough to change my mind about people and not worry. |

Excellent question!
I can be and have been taken in by people for quite sometime only to discover when they let a comment slip or expound some fantastical rascist, homophobic or sexist theory that they aren't who they thought they were.
At what point do you think you would stop being friends with someone you otherwise really liked because of political or other _iews? |

It depends. Sometimes I figure it out quickly, sometimes I believe them for ages.
It also depends on what it is. I wouldn't dismiss someone for one comment. I am happy to disagree with people, I'm not the type to get uptight if someone doesn't agree with every single thing I say.
I might realise I've been 'sucked in' but not care and not dismiss that person. Depends on a lot of things. If the overall impression is still good... then it's good. |

You forgive true friends a lot, long-standing true friends even more.
You know the jokes. A friend will come bail you out, a true friend will be in the cell with you saying 'Wow - that was awesome'!
Or - a true friend will help you bury the body...'
Brings you up short when you realise that they really aren't at all the person you thought they were - in fact they are so different they turn out to be a stranger - and possibly one you do not want to have as a friend.
Happens occasionally, even worse if you think they've been pretending to decieve and get what they want. |

I am with Brighton as following a comment made on a forum post, the person I thought was really nice, really isn't. One lives and learns, perhaps as someone once said, meeting face to face tells a different story |

I wouldn't dismiss someone for one comment and I like having friends who can disagree with me without it affecting our friendship I love a good spar.

Anything that makes me think differently. I change my mind and my _iews constantly and learned long ago how wrong my initial prejudices can be. I much prefer to be surprised, or challenged to rethink. People that are fixed into a limited perspective (often that of others) bore me. |

Anything that makes me question my initial perception of a person. Comments or actions that make me sit up and take more notice of my intuition!
We will never know a person 100% even the ones close to us, so my intuition is all i have to go on! |
