Washing line

I've just been shouted at by a neighbour for "hogging" the washing line and "now no one else can get any laundry done".

For context, it's currently 5.20pm and the sun is disappearing off the garden. I live in a old house converted into 4 flats that has a lovely back garden which is a sun trap on nice days. Our mutual landlord has installed 3 whirly gig style lines for everyone to use. I gambled on the weather this morning and did a full load plus another of towels and bedsheets. This took up two of the three lines. It was dull and very overcast this morning. I struck lucky and since 1pm ish it's been very sunny and a nice wind - perfect drying conditions.

I've been home all day, and my bedroom looks out over the garden and I've not seen any of my neighbours even venture outside into it never mind attempting to hang out laundry.

I think she's over reacting a little....especially at this time of day. I think she's more annoyed at herself for missing an opportunity....And it's meant to absolutely pour down tomorrow.

Mey be a little annoyed they've been on all 3 lines since 1:00 - who knows

Now you know could you free up a line to allow them to get something out drying?

I think so too. You snooze you lose. I imagine if your neighbour had asked beforehand you would have been more accommodating?

The expectation that you ought to have known their routine on top of adapting to it seems a step too far, in my opinion.

4 flats and 3 lines, landlord should have fitted 4 and then everyone could have 1 each, maybe ask him to install another.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I purely think she was annoyed at the fact she'd left it too late in the day to do her own laundry and decided to vent it on me - there was still one unused line and for the vast majority of the time one line is all anyone needs. It's purely only because I did bedsheets and towels as well I needed the second, and seeing as no one else was using it.....first come first serve?

I'd ask the landlord to install a fourth line but (and he has a point) three lines have served every tenant well for the past decade he's owned the building so he wont install a fourth for a one off 10 second argument. Although this is a guy who writes into your agreement "no wet washing indoors" but won't install a washer/dryer. Makes winter laundry a nightmare when weather is generally shit.

Why would anyone neighbor venture outside to hand washing if there was no space? Surely they could see out of the window just as you did, maybe they were waiting until more was free?

Not really worth the arguement mind.

You got there 1st.
