Thinking of getting a new phone, looking at budget ranges but not rubbish. Am considering one of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 series, they look to have good enough performance, good quality cameras, high def screen, and be available in the £120 to £160 range.

There's a cheaper model which has 8GB of ram and 256GB of app/data store, but only does 4G reception. Or a more expensive model which only has 6GB ram and 128GB store, but has 4G and 5G reception. Otherwise the two models have very similar performance.

Has anyone got a Redmi, got any criticism or praise for it? What about 5G, is it worth paying extra for that while getting less memory (there's no 5G cover where I live, but the phone companies do keep promising that it's coming _real_soon_now_).

I've been trying to make this decision for a week now, any advice welcome.

PS. The 5G version is a beautiful green colour, the 4G one is boring black. But I can't possibly ignore the technical specs and just choose because of the colour can I?

I've not had a Redmi but I'm very against the huge screen sizes today, which most companies are now doing as standard.

I've now got 5g on mine but not where I live. If you plan on keeping it for a few years, I'd be tempted to pay a little bit more for it Polly.

I'm going to PM you some info I've seen on current deals

I hear that Apple are coming out with bendy screens.

What could possibly go wrong?

I like the Motorola phones. Good features at a budget price.

I once bought the Xiaomi note 12 pro, cannot fault the performance but had to send it back after realising that I couldn't upgrade the memory but inserting a memory card!

The problem I have with Samsung is all the unnecessary apps they insist on installing. Take up space and don't add any benefit
