I've always used places like cex etc to buy phones and electrical goods from. However today I thought I'd take a few bits down to sell.

Well I came home with all 3 items. If I had brought all 3 from there it would have cost me 425 quid. But to sell to them I was offered just 150quid.

It's made me think twice about buying from there now. I know they are a business but can't believe people are that desperate to sell things.

All if those sorts of retailers are the same. Buy in cheap and then stick a shed load on to sell.

Webuyanycar/bike/house are among the worst.

Games exchanges too.

For fine jewellery, one is lucky to get 20% of the purchase price for new items.

Precious metals hold their values better.

Jewellery as an investment? Not the kind one gets from the high streets!

I'd just never realised they paid people so little for them. I thought with how busy they always are that they must pay good prices xxx

Is it worth investing in anything these days?

I have some shotguns which will always hold their value but that's about it.

well I went as like a numpty I've lost my bank card and due to the fact I've lost my Id too, couldn't get cash out the bank. So I thought it would be quick and no hassle way to a few quid while I wait for a new card. But I am not that desperate lol

Hello all,

it's that sort of business, it takes a lot of money to hold sufficient stock, then add overheads which must be paid, staff wages, rent and rates which are expensive, lighting and heating maintenance and most importantly to make a profit. I'm sure you have seen so many large high street chains disappear despite being in business for a long time.

Alec

Take it to cash generator or cash converters. Still a rip off but can put item in and buy it back from them when you get your card. Say they give you 80 quid for an item you will pay 100 to get it back.

Ive found that they give terrible prices for cd's. I brought in a compilation cd that was less than 6 weeks old, and the offered me 30p. I told them id rather give it to a charity shop than sell it to you at that price.
