Game shows missing a trick

Every time I watch a game show it’s usually (not always) highly successful or people living a comfortable life that are on the shows. I just think they are missing a trick with not having more people living on the breadline or homeless people to give them more of a chance at a winning some money that will highly benefit them. I’m not in anyway saying people that have worked hard and earned there comfortable lifestyle shouldn’t be on these shows I’m just saying that I personally would give the people struggling a chance on these shows aswell.

It’s a slippery slope that. Soon be in hunger games territory. Some housewife from Cheshire losing out on £10k because the plastic disc won’t drop the right place it entertaining. A homeless guy missing out on potentially lifesaving money in the same situation is dystopia and not at all fun

Yes but don’t imagine they would get the same treatment as there’s a lot of snobbery in the TV industry.

Most people that are homeless have had chaotic and difficult lives. They've often missed a lot of education. Many of them are trauma and abuse survivors which affects their mental and physical health. So, they probably wouldn't do that well on a game show.

And they probably wouldn't enjoy it - the stakes are too high and it would be stressful. I don't think I would enjoy watching that. The whole fun of a game show is that it's fun, it doesn't matter if those people win or lose, it's entertainment.

I understand what you're saying but I think it might be better to just give them support, rather than making them win it.

They have to be seen to be featuring a cross section of our society

You’re probably right. A lot of these people don’t get the help they need for example war veterans but appearing on TV probably would be to much for alot of them.

I think there's also the worry that they would feel embarrassed or humiliated. People who are living lifestyles like that often feel a lot of shame.

I like this idea, would be far more entertaining to be watching the chase and as the 4 players are introduced one is a stinking tramp plucked straight from the gutter no wash or make up just standing there with his cheap cider bottle and the odd fly buzzing around him asking the other players for any spare change as they walk past to take their turn playing

Wealthy people will always do better on some game shows as they are more willing to risk it. Shows like limitless win and Millionaire see you risking what you have for the chance of more. If your poor £5000 is a lot of money that you can do a lot with, if your wealthy then there’s less riding on it and you’ll push on.
