It's a weak joke and even at a bringer or stayer, it still wouldn't cut the mustard.
One liners are very tricky for a new act to do well. The best proponents, Delaney, Simmons, Cowards, Masai Graham, do them in strings, so rather than each joke being on its own, you have three that are linked and so you build up momentum.
The only way this joke would work is if it is part of a section of gags based on this one encounter.
Personally, if it were me doing this, I'd arrange to go on last and just roast the groom. I'd also be praying that no one else had the same idea. Roasting the groom will lose the rest of the audience, who aren't part of the stag night, but frankly any comedy night that's willing to let a stag party have a go, probably isn't that renowned for quality anyway. |
