Anyone thought “I don’t want to do this any more”?
And changed direction
Last year I was a plant machine driver in construction
This year I’m an Occupational Health Technician
You can see the natural progression I’m sure

good for you OP!
I left a job I was unhappy in .. probably a few years too late tbf but by far the best thing I’ve ever done.
Life is too short not to enjoy it!
Hope you’re enjoying your new vocation! |

It’s great

Absolutely, I had a change of direction after over 15 years in the same job. The longest I've ever done anything for and was really starting to hate it.
I will qualify as an Environmental Health Officer later this year |

2 years ago my Hubby decided to quit as a high level director working 90-100 hours a week all over the country… to work less than 40 hours a week in a school, for less than a 3rd of the pay.
We haven’t looked back x |

20 years ago I worked for a well known hotel chain and I loved it, my middle son (then about 2) asked me if I could change my job so I could be there at bedtime, which I did. I spent many years going between jobs, I found I thrived working in care homes doing activities but something clicked earlier last year and I sat up and went I can't do this anymore, I loved my residents but I didn't love my job anymore, so I left and now I'm back doing the same job I was doing 20 years ago, absolutely loving it and doing an NVQ and as much as I protest and say I don't want to progress here, I can see myself shifting and wanting more and more. |

i told them to shove my job in February - total stress overload and blame culture - impossible manager who targeted people and it was my turn. Dropped 6k in wages, couple of small temporary contacts whilst looking and now doing a job where no 2 days are the same, im mean really not the same. No office - my manager told me to come to the office Friday to get some stuff printed, pop in around 10 ish !!
being paid for cooking cakes, playing uno, and playing in the park - yep great move |

This resonates with me. In this exact situation, have been causally looking for a few months without really committing to chasing another job but had an eye opening moment that really hit home that I’m just a number and am replaceable tomorrow if they so wish so time to put my all into finding something new. |

Not so much changing career as I love what I do. But changing the terms in which I’m employed.
Currently in the process of setting up a business and going self employed. Thankfully there is a huge demand for my skill set. |

Think it every single day, but my financial situation means I can’t earn any less than I do now and changing what I do would have that effect. |

Yes I made a complete change last year and left a very comfortable job and incredible prospects within arms reach to do something I’m really really passionate about. I’m really happy I can apply my skill set to a worthwhile cause and see some of the positive change I can make. Very fulfilled!
Fulfilled but skint though. Satisfaction isn’t legal tender, sadly |

Yes I left a very stressful and thankless career and now run my own business.
I miss the excitement and the challenges of my previous job, but I don’t miss the moments of wondering if I’m coming home that day or the constant pressure.
In the whole I’m much happier. |

Changed industries, kept the same job role. Swapped city life for remote working with the odd trip to the big smoke, a 4 day week and a £12k paycut. I’m not rich but I have the best work life balance going.
One day if I ever figure out what I’d actually like to do with my life I may well swap again, until then this works just fine |

Yep. Worked in conservation then in marine law enforcement. I loved it actually more than the job I do now which isn't remotely in the same field.
Sadly there's no money in what I did previously. That was OK before, when I was younger, but then I needed to grow up |

Ha no, more the people chopping off their fins. Actually it was a pointless role anyway. The seized hauls got sold at auction (by government) to the very people behind it in the first place. It just cost them more |

HGV driver of 20+ years. I hate it so much I sometimes wonder if I am actually having a mental breakdown - hence my username.
I've had a lifelong talent for drawing and artwork, but have never pursued this line of work. But I'm edging closer and closer towards it.
with no kids, mortgage, or wife, I'm thinking I could live off the income, which would be about 1/3 of HGV driving.
HGV driving is slowly killing me, and I think 1/3 of the wage but spiritual fulfillment is a life worth living.
I wouldn't recommend HGV driving to anybody. |

*Facepalm moment* guess that's one way of subsidising the effort of catching them in the first place! |

Some of the best jobs I’ve had were in small tech companies when each month we had to decide if we could pay ourselves that month. Some of the worse- six figure salaries and huge bonuses. You gotta find what you love or it will sap the life and soul out of you |

I have not had a massive change in career; but I do change employer and the field in which I work in every few years. Currently working overseas and aim to slow the pace down and find something far more relaxing and part time when my contract emds in four and a half years |

I had a career change recently. It's scary after training and spending lots of money, time and energy on becoming successful what I wanted to be, but then realising I didn't wanted to do it.
But now, even though I'm back at the bottom of my new career path, it's exciting because there's so many possibilities and I'm progressing quite quickly and enjoying it.

I did 10 years ago, and I adore what I do now. Unfortunately, covid and gardening have taken a toll on my body, and I may have to consider retraining again in the next few years. As what I have no clue just yet. |

Yes, had a career, an injury gave me time to reflect and ended up going to university and retraining for the career I have now. Qualified in this job 2008 and am still loving it |

Currently in the middle of a industry change right now, it can be scary being inbetween jobs and not knowing when you might get an offer for something new, but I'm much less stressed than I was in the previous role/industry.
I'd definitely recommend leaving if you're not happy and going for something new, much better than sticking it out with a thankless job, crap pay etc. ~ John |
