The saddest thing about growing old
Jump to: Newest in thread
Is, i think, just not being surprised by anything anymore, how i mourn the loss of youthful innocence. Now, it seems, no matter what happens in the world, it's all met with no more than a shrug and a rolling of the eyes. Yes, we may still be appalled by what's happening but the loss of surprise is palpable.
Then i was sent a video of a gorilla giving oral sex to his mate. I'm happy to report that surprise still exists, my faith is restored and all is well with the world. |

It is a good thing to have the chance to grow old. Some others have not been as lucky.
Live every day as if its your last because one day you will be right. |

It isn't so much growing old as growing experienced. My gran reinforced the message "don't trust grown ups" time and time again. I never had that youthful innocence to lose. My gran was so right though. |

Just wait till the Alzheimer's kicks in OP.
You'll be giving oral sex to your mates (maybe even some gorillas too?) in public, and you'll be all happy and smiley with ne'er a care in the world.
Everyone else...we'll politely look the other way and call Adult Social Care . |

Yeah, when I saw gorillas they mostly spent their time wanking. That was amusing but not quite as much as orangutans chucking their poo at unsuspecting tourists just for their own entrainment. So yep, stuff like that! |

I'm surprised the first question wasn't either?
Do gorilla's spit or swallow?
Or..
Were they fab straight gorilla's? |

Having to take photos of small writing and then enlarging the picture to see the writing.
Being at that age where you don't want to be stuck with the oldies but the younger table but you catch a glimpse of yourself and you are an oldie now. |

"Losing loved ones. Finding out school friends who did not make it to my age."
We've had several school acquaintances die, and we're only in our 30s. The latest was only a month or two ago, in a car accident. |

So much negativity. Hopefully we will all be lucky enough to get old. I am still working because I enjoy it. I have good health. I have family. My brain is sharper than most youngsters. I have sufficient funds. I have experience. I have time. You can either be old and grumpy or grab life by the balls. |

"It’s so damn easy to injury yourself in the gym. I can literally look at a barbell the wrong way and it puts my back out.
aren't you supposed to lift it? "
Lift ???? Eff that.
I’m just there to make animalistic grunting noises while warming up, throw subtle mirror poses to show off the striations in my arms to anyone who might inadvertently throw a cursory glance in my direction and go around telling everyone they are doing it ‘all wrong’. |

I'm glad I've the chance, I've already lost friends my age, and I wouldn't say I'm "old" yet.
But one of the things I've noticed is comparing "yesteryear" and deciding that things "aren't what they used to be".
Sometimes, this is a good thing. Sometimes, of course, it's not.
I've also noticed I've begun to use phrases that my Mum used to use on me |

We're not all lucky enough to make it without acquiring ill health or disability. It can strike out of nowhere, not the fault of the person who acquires it. I know I'm not going to live a pain free, sprightly older life. |
