Reports that senior managers in the EU are unhappy that Eurovision do not allow the EU flag to be flown. They believe that it fuels Eurosceptic nations such as England who left Europe completely and are no longer part of it. The Eurovision say they allow nation flags and the Pride Rainbow flag. They do not allow political flags. Surprisingly Eurovision is not run by the EU at all so why should their flag be there ? It's all over the news |

Well I'll call this one out: only participating nation flags, the rainbow and the pride flags. They don't allow Palestinian flags. Still strange that they say they're apolitical but have banned Russia. That's not happened in the past afaik. |

"Politics forum please, Moderators "
Actually… no… this is where a history lesson may be in order….
The EBU is made up of public service broadcasters all across Europe and has associate members all over the world
To be honest.. without the EBU…. You would have had no pan European coverage of for example the Olympics, or the World Cup/euros |

I can appreciate The Euro cup, but Olympics or World Cup? Surely that'll be a remit of the Worldwide Broadcasting Union? |

They’re still in the EU, obviously, along with NI. Which is why there hadn’t been any border tension spilling over in NI over these past few years |

England is still in Europe.
And I’m pretty sure it was the UK that left the EU, not England on its own. |

Tom, do you mean the EU has stopped subsidising UK farmers?
Yes Glyn. Keep up !"
Well what do you expect - the farming industry did vote leave....irony at it's purest....
Anyway, I'm sure the UK government will replace the EU funding streams with some equally generous successor scheme's of their own... |

Why would they subsidise our farmers. We left the EU.
Similarly, we're not subsidising their farmers any longer either. |

They banned Russia because of oppression of national broadcasters’ employees and state censorship of their output. |

You are not allowed to attack people no...which is not the same as critising a post which is allowed. The post you quoted attacked the poster which is against forum rules.

Your post implies Tom has special treatment. He doesn't.

"The Eurovision say they allow the Pride Rainbow flag.
In contrast, our Government said this week that Civil Servants are not allowed to wear Pride rainbow lanyards. "
But why should they be allowed to, Sally? You can't walk around with a lanyard showing your political affiliation, why should a rainbow lanyard be allowed?
Looking for open debate, not a slanging match. Block buttons are optional |

The only lanyards worn should be the ones provided by your company. You will not have a claim if you do not wear the official one and something happens like the lanyard being caught on the lift doors |

"I think a rainbow lanyard shows support for equality for all genders and sexualities so is a welcoming gesture, not political. "
It's lost its original meaning and has been hijacked. I'd agree it has no place in the workplace. |

Our Islands used to be part of mainland (or continental) Europe. Over hundreds of millions of years, the tectonic plates have moved us away, hence we became islands.

Yes. Dinosaurs could walk freely between England and France as could early man presumably. The Dorset coast is full of dinosaur bones. When we became an island presumably dinosaurs were hunted to extinction as mankind discovered how to make fire and to cook meat. They also discovered how to preserve meat with sea salt. |
