When we first got together and brought our first flat we were living on 'fresh air' after putting money aside for mortgage, bills etc.
I think we were surviving on less than £20 a week for groceries and household basics.
But one thing is for sure, they were happy days and made us totally appreciate what we have today. |

Changes from one week to the next.
I take out £100 a wek for shopping and spends.
Sometimes I have some left over, sometimes I hsve to dip into the bank account again.
I have a spreadsheet to keep track of my finances so I know what effect anything I spend now will have on my finances up to 3 montgs after.
Having a grand in the current account this week you could be fooled into thinkin you could treat yourself but by the end of the month that grand might only equate to a spare £50 once everything has been paid.
So well worth doing to keep tabs on things.
Getting paid a set amount and paying everything by DD / SO certainly makes it easier to manage though. |

Seriously, do yourself a budget for the next few months on a spreadsheet.
It's a great tool for helping you manage overspends
Some people find it easier to bury their heads innthe sand though and worry about it only when the bills land.
I started doing them out of necessity but found them so useful that I continued doing them even after I became debt free. |
