If the UK hadn't have lead from the front offering support for them even the cheeky Sam Ryder would have been the usual Eurovision ignominy.

"Public vote was a real kick in the teeth for UK" . Indeed. I think even Israel got more of a public vote than the UK, and they are prosecuting a war where innocents are sadly dying. We're considered lower than that. I believe Switzerland's public vote was the largest. Which suggests if we want to be admired and respected in the world stage, what we are doing now is clearly not working and perhaps we should be more like Switzerland.

"Guess we didn't finish bottom but to get zero points in the second part of the voting seams we are hated.maybe we should stop sending money to all these countries if they hate us so much ." We’re sending money to all these countries? Got a lost of the amounts, and why? And you want to rip it all up because of a naff song contest?

"Respectfully.. some of you surely understand that we are still part of Europe irrespective of your EU stance? " The Eurovision has extended well behind Europe for a many years now, and has nothing to do with the EU

Australia? | |||

"Guess we didn't finish bottom but to get zero points in the second part of the voting seams we are hated.maybe we should stop sending money to all these countries if they hate us so much ." Don't forget the public vote is open to over 100 countries in the rest of the world (as they mentioned several times) - so no-one out there voted for the UK entry.

"I don't understand what we do wrong in the UK. Why does it seem the rest of the world hates us? I find that hard to believe given every day there are thousands trying to cross the channel to get here? Genuinely curious why" You honestly can’t think of any reasons why Britain is unpopular in Europe? No? And what do the people on boats have to do with it? Are the boats filled with Germans, Swiss, French etc? I’m pretty sure those people come from further afield and have bigger concerns than who to vote for in a song contest.

"No, the song was just s*** I thought it was the worst performance of the night " Absolutely,I hadn't heard it before last night and thought the whole thing was just lackluster and frankly seedy given some of the flesh on show from others performing ours shone as being seedy rather than sexy. The vocals were poor,I'm not sure if it was the set or some crafty sound engineer messed with the settings but it sounded muddled. We just need a fun, easy to get punchy pop song failing that lets just get a group of asylum seekers on stage singing "do they know it's Christmas". Genuinely tho I can't believe that in the whole of the world not 1 person voted for it, some dodgy shit happened me thinks.

I find that hard to believe given every day there are thousands trying to cross the channel to get here? Genuinely curious why" The UK has had short shift at Eurovision ever since we helped the US invade Afghanistan so it's been going on for a long time. Hilariously the EBU is currently shouting about being apolitical, yet they have stamped down on any pro-Palestinian signs/comments/clothing. They do not get to bar Russia for attacking Ukraine and then welcome Israel for doing the exact same thing to Palestine. Hypocrites of the highest order. Which is why I didn't watch or attend my friend's party this year. And it wasn't that long ago that Europe watched us commit the biggest act of self harm a country has ever done with Brexit. They think we're all xenophobic Little Englanders - why shouldn't they hate us?

"What I want to know is with an the AI and hologram technology surely it must be a simple matter for the UK to reclaim its superiority at Eurovision by brining back Wogan? " Didn’t win it much when Wogan was in charge either. More idea though, claiming UK superiority based on the efforts of an Irish presenter!

"I don't understand what we do wrong in the UK. Why does it seem the rest of the world hates us? I find that hard to believe given every day there are thousands trying to cross the channel to get here? Genuinely curious why The UK has had short shift at Eurovision ever since we helped the US invade Afghanistan so it's been going on for a long time. Have you told tbe EBU that you boycotted your friends party? It could make a difference Ignoring the sarcasm, not watching the show was the bare minimum that someone can do. Viewing figures would speak for themselves. I choose not to support events/companies that are cool with genocide but you do you Anyone who watched is cool with genocide Got it Continue to deliberately misquote me, you're just showing your arse " Except of course I didn't: "not watching the show was the bare minimum that someone can do. Viewing figures would speak for themselves. I choose not to support events/companies that are cool with genocide but you do you"

And as an Irishman I fully agree that Norton was a suitable replacement, not sure about Rylan

"For us not to receive any points from the phone-in votes, we should ask one particular country three things: 1) Are you enjoying the aid and money you're being given? 2) How did you like the really expensive concert the UK put on last year courtesy of its taxpayers? and 3) How are those weapons which seemingly grow on trees working out for you?" What’s they got to do with a song contest?

The UK is giving aid to all the other countries? Switzerland? Finland? Australia? Do you have the numbers / details? And the UK is supplying arms to all those countries as well?

"It was a poor song etc … but it’s a result because we couldn’t afford to host it if we would have won ! Anyway dropping out of the EU. Was stupid and it’s yet another joke on us " Couldn’t afford to host it? Seriously? How much do you think it costs to host?

"It's a weird one. I always thought we were hated but we did so well in 2022 with Sam Ryder. Was it just a one off or was there something more to that?" We were very sympathetic to the Ukraine mainly in supplying them with arms last yr, that goes a long way in political votes which makes up 85% of Eurovision votes. Generally we are hated

"I'm still finding it hard to believe that not one person in that whole TV audience didn't vote for united kingdom surely some patriotic ex pat living abroad or military personnel stationed abroad?? Not a single vote!!! Seems very suspicious,ok the song was diabolically shit and the performance was like some cheesy boxing club cottaging 80's style video but still NIL points?" It's a fair point obediah. Maybe we should do a better job of selecting our competitors and songs to submit for this incredibly important event.

"Generally we are hated " I’m an immigrant living in the UK, and from my point of view and experience, the UK is not hated. It is however bit off a laughing stock, and considered arrogant and out of touch by many. Brexit didn’t help, and the posturing, pronouncements and attitudes of many out of touch British politicians reinforce the views of many other nations towards the UK. Hated? No! But certainly long since the global power it thinks it is.

"Just found this on the interweb... Each nations votes are given out as 12 10 8 etc like the juries. The song that get the most votes get 12 points and so on. Then all points from all countries is added together and given out as a lump sum. ...so in short the UK could have been voted for but not enough to get any points." On the panel yes but the public vote can't be done that way Tbh I couldn't give two hoots if we win or not I've always watched it for a few reasons, cringe value, entertainment value and shwing value. But it all seems to be getting far too professional and produced I preferred the amateur nonsense of yesteryear.

"We're not in the club any more. " Israel and Australia aren’t in the Europe club either- geographically or politico-economically, and we’ve always done badly in Eurovision even before Brexit, so it can’t be that! The bigger question is why we even give a shit- it’s a batshit crazy competition for batshit crazy, third rate music acts and the only thing that made the show watchable was Wogan getting more and more pissed and sarcastic as the night went on, and that’s gone now!
