That prostitution is legal in the UK.
I had no idea!
Had a friend of mine discussing how his father is losing the “hunt” and “thrill” of going after women at his age (health issues limiting him).
I felt a tad sorry for him, because I feel like we associate quite a bit of our “manliness” and ego in our ability to have a woman be attracted to us at their own volition rather than paying for it.
But he suggested to his dad to have a Lady of the Night.
It made sense to me.. but I went all hushed and went “what about if it’s an undercover cop?”
And he went “it’s legal. Brothels are not allowed, but prostitution is legal”.
I searched it up… the bugger was actually right! It is legal.
Had no clue! |

"I believe solicitation is illegal"
Yes. Going up to people and asking them if they'd like to pay for some fun is illegal but if they approach someone and offer them money then they is not. I believe |

Yes, technically, it's legal, but, there are so many legalities that it is virtually impossible to apply the trade without contravention.
The loop wholes are a type of 80s Ford hatchback (can't write the word due to rules) and dominatrix services which are allowed but if memory serves if you advertise sexual services that's illegal.
Eg. Pay for company of a Ford 80s hatchback to socialise and have dinner. That's the payment and contract. If they decide to have sexual activity, it's not part of the agreement, so therefore, no laws broken. But if they advertised sexual services after dinner with a price, busted...
Think that how it goes. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Brilliant analogy. Helped me piece the legal loophole together. So akin to how some avoid the gift tax. |

On one hand, makes sense. On the other, I do try to understand the line of enforcement and it does seem a tad.. grey-ish. |

Honestly the laws make it so bloody difficult to operate safely.
If selling Domme services with no sexual contact, it makes some people think you're just saying that for legality and they try to push it anyway.
Two working girls can't operate under the same roof and watch each other's backs, because then it counts as a brothel, instead of just a couple of girls looking out for each other in what can be a very dangerous industry. Most are forced to operate out of their homes because you can't share an external premises so creeps that know how to act normal in the vetting process don't have your home address.
Just legalise it properly for fucks sake |

I had a criminology module at uni on sex work and sex industries that covered this kind of thing. I actually remember writing an essay on how street workers were the most vulnerable in society |

Was your conclusion alike to what PreyToTheFairies had said about legalisation? Would be interested to read it if it’s a public paper (if you’re comfortable sharing of course). |

"If truly independent yes. However, don't let the tax man /woman catch you!
Ah - so remind me? How exactly do I present these receipts to my accountant? "
Well easy to be caught out if advertising on some of the very obvious sites. People have been got that way... only if you're very prolific though I think. Not if it's a little side hustle so much. |

"It saddens me that giving access to their body for money is sometimes the best choice from the options available for women some do anything to feed there habit "
Some do it because it feels less exploitative than a 9 to 5.
Not all sex workers have "habits". |

It isn't necessarily that though. There are those who are very particular about who they see (like how people are on here), and enjoy having sex so why not get paid for it?
There's so much cynicism and judgement about sex work. Of course there's exploitation ect but the other end is women who actually find it quite liberating. It can be a positive choice.
It's as unreasonable to me to assume everyone doing it is "sad" as saying every couple swinging is in a sad situation bc clearly their partner isn't enough for them. Sweeping generalisations do no one any favours and rarely present the truth. |

Yes there are elements of addictions etc. But that's no different to any other profession.
Alot of people who work in the adult industry because its good money, they can choose their own hours, ther have freedoms a 9 to 5 doesn't give.
And they enjoy it! Can't forget that.
How many people can say they enjoy their job.
Of course, not as many are providing services due to the safety aspects, which is where the likes of OnlyF and patreon come in. They provide just as much but better safety.

"Sadly, two (or more) women working in the same property is classed as a brothel and therefore illegal. This reduces safety for sex workers as they are pushed into working alone. "
This is such ashame. At least if legal, would’ve sought for it to be implemented with safety in mind. |

Agreed. I find the generalisations some make are well-meaning as they hear stories of enforced servitude/illegal migrants forced into the sex trade and immediately brush the trade with such. Completely normal as it’s from a position of empathy. However, not all in the trade are victims (dare I say, I assume most are not). Nor is it indicative of the trade as a whole. I wished it were completely legal to enable a greater enforcement of safety for workers without critique. |

You are assuming the biggest threats are the customers. You are very wrong there |

I think it sould be legal and regulated for everyone’s safety.
There are many people who miss out on a sex life due to many different issues, this could be physical or mental disability which make it very difficult for them to interact in a usual way.
If it’s regulated the stigma wouldn’t be so bad. Safety would be assured and no one would be taken advantage of. Make perfect sense in my mind |
