Does anyone else just put shows or YouTube videos etc on in the background just to have noise?

I feel like I have to constantly have some sort of information wizzing around in my environment. Even if I don’t pay much attention half the time!!

At the moment it’s a podcast interview with Nancy Pelosi.

She’s not engaging in the slightest but the crackhead part of my brain can’t get rid of the stimulus.

With alistair campbell and rory stewart?

Yeah... dissapointing interview. They'often excellent.

Problem with youtube is the ads

Precisely yes. For some reason I can’t get enough of that podcast. It’s kinda fascinating listening to a pair of centrist dads.

I agree on YouTube. It’s only gotten worse. Continually diluted like every other service in the economy.

Never used to be so many ads that you’d have to consider that. That’s by design. They water down the service to drive you spend more to essentially get what you had day 1.

I put the radio on, if I'm home alone, including when WFH. I can't stand long periods of silence.

Putting the radio on vs a YouTube video probably just highlights my age

I will disagree with this. I am highly analytical and have excellent performance. I've never had a quiet space in which to exist and so I find silence disconcerting. I produce far better work in a space with background noise.

Therefore I much prefer the silence for my solitude and solace, and helps in my concentration and relaxation.

I will sometimes put the radio on if I'm alone, specifically Radio4.

My dad often complains that the house is too quiet and telly and radio provides a little relief from that

I don’t always need background something, I do like greatest hits radio and listen to that.

Just now I’m up with dog after kids going to bed and no tv or radio on, although had the drier on.

"The lack of some peaceful and quiet reflection time leads to poor analytical skills and reduced performance.

*for some. "

For everyone

Some people just believe that external noise helps to silence the chaos going on in their mind.

Music. Radio is my background noise.

Tv is distracting and it’s a real sit down and pay attention for me.

"Does anyone else just put shows or YouTube videos etc on in the background just to have noise?

I feel like I have to constantly have some sort of information wizzing around in my environment. Even if I don’t pay much attention half the time!! "

No but i do have the constant sound of seagulls squawking

"Smooth Radio, LBC or Lo-Fi instrumentals "

I’m big on LoFi at r the moment as well. Never known music have a literal calming effect on me like that.

I’ve never understood you sleep with the tv people!
