So with it being the 4th of May, we get the usual clichéd quote. Maybe controversial, but Star Wars is massively overrated, apart from the first 2 films, The Mandolorian and possibly Rogue One. The rest are either average at best and actually most of it is well below average. If the Stars Wars name wasn't attached to most of it, it wouldn't get a fraction of the fan boy/girl praise it receives.
Star Trek is far more superior, as are the original and reboot of Battlestar Galatica. Firely and the spin off film of it Serenity are brilliant. Even the series The Expanse is much better. The acting is a bit hammy and the budget is relatively low in comparison, but still a bloody good watch.
I'm not a Star Wars hater, but it's definitely massively overhyped and there's so many other Sci-fi shows and films that are loads better.

"Ooo you’re going to cause some controversy there.
But agreed, Star Wars has its moments but it’s not a mark on Star Trek which genuinely broke ground in the real world. "
So much of Star Wars is style over substance. |

I do find it good that George Lucas was a fan of Star Trek and Gene Roddenberry was a fan of Star Wars, yet their respective fans had created controversy and arguments over which is better over the other. |

Don’t want to bring you down, but that was one of the songs played at my wife’s funeral. She loved that tune. Many years ago. No need to commiserate. |

"Don't disagree completely apart from the bit about the original Battlestar Galactica being better.
Obi Wan was one of the worst TV shows in recent years"
Obi Wan was awful. I also get what you're saying about the original Battlestar Galatica. I maybe looking back at that with nostalgia and rose tinted glasses. But as a five year old, I lived for that show. |

"Oh, and Firefly might be the best of them all. Watched half a dozen times. "
Firefly is criminally underrated, but I'm sort of glad the masses didn't get into it. That's the pompous geek in me. |

"Star Trek first and foremost here.
I watch other franchises as I like is-fi in general.
If it wasn't for star wars there would of been no Wrath of Khan."
Wrath of Khan, what a great film. When Khan put that 'eel' into Chekov's ear to control him. Terrified and enthralled me in equal measure when I first watched that. What a scene, what a film. Certainly up there as one of the greatest sci-fi movies ever. |

Blah blah blah
I agree that “phantom menace” and “attack of the clones” suck but can not agree with any of your other drivel and Star Trek is shockingly rubbish |

"Babylon 5. The best. †"
Oh I'm with you on this! G'Kar and Londo - beautifully complex, intertwined characters; the best frenemies you'll ever see in sci-fi. The Shadows are possibly the most insidious villains I've seen, and yet they still managed to show you the logic of their perspective. That was a groundbreaking show. |

"It’s funny, you very rarely see Star Wars fans slagging off other franchises.
There’s a very real reason…
"
Anger, fear, aggression; the dark side of the Force are they. Easily they flow, quick to join you in a fight. If once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will, as it did Obi-Wan's apprentice.

I like Star Wars. I'm very fond of the original three.
Everything after that hasn't been great, if I'm honest. The big exception to that was Rogue One, which was genuinely good, and edgy. Andor, likewise in the TV shows.
And the animated series Rebels - that genuinely captured some of the feel of the original movies.
The fact is, I'm a far more dedicated Star Trek fan, and a lifelong champion of Babylon 5.
The best sci-fi in the last 20 years has been The Expanse (I don't believe the acting is at all hammy). It balances interesting characters, believable tech and cultures, and interesting plots. They've even invested the minor characters with depth, and that's what imbues it with depth. Rocinante is my favourite ship, Holden my favourite flawed hero, Amos my favourite tough guy, and Avisarsla the meanest leader in any cosmos - she'd make Palpatine piss himself.
