I assume this arose out of COVID...but seriously....why do people now do this?!
I was at the bar the other week...a everyone stood normally...plenty of people.stood\gaps at the bar...I fill one...then some bloke behind another bloke (I thought they were being served together) tells me that's he's next?!?
If he's next...why isn't he at the bar!?!
Sorry for the rant. The respect post made me think...it's one situation where I will be a dick to people if they don't know how to use a pub....
(To clarify the bar staff have told us they also hate it) And there's no signs or anything indicating queueing or waiting to be served...

Ha not the worst thing ever, but I just don't understand why people don it if there's no sign asking them to?
The bar staff hate it and surely they know how a bar works and has for centuries?
Who looks at an empty bar...where there's one person getting servers and thinks...I better stand over here where noone knows I want to be served...?

I quite miss the 2m social distancing. I liked having that much personal space at the supermarket etc.
(Other situations require no social distancing, whatsoever)
But queueing in single file at a bar does seem unusual.

But then you come along and squeeze in between so now is just a foot between us and somebody else sees that little gap too and just about manages to squeeze in between and so on and before you know it I smell his breath, feel the litlle fellow brushing against my leg and the one behind starts drilling for oil. Yes a little odd to queue like that in a pub I suppose but I don't realy go much to pubs anymore. However I do like my space and and not to be crowded amd find it a bit rude when people do that |

Couple assumptions there ..I'd stand the other side of said fellow...as bars are generally wider than 4ft..plus a 1ft gap is a lot more than you'd get in a queue with people literally stood breathing down your neck and bumping into you.

Ok, just last comment and out. You pick and choose words. I said I find it a bit strange queueing like that but also said I found crowding (word you missed out) someone as sometimes some get far too close to others and I do find that disrespectful yes. Over and out. Like I said is not a big issue for me, just basic manners. |

If someone is crowding you for no reason...yeh I agree...it says either rude, inconsiderate, or oblivious but if the bar is busy, surely you dont take offence in that situation ? |

I have done bar work in the past and trained as a bar manager.
The guy who trained me was the senior Steward on the QE2.
I was always taught that a good Bar Person always noted who arrived ad who left and in what order.
Even if a person was pushed two rows back, I always knew who was next to be served and informed them that they were next.
I got a lot of respect for it and always got tips or a drink bought for me. |

Personally I would rather queue, it's gets down quick.
Plus no one liked pushing and shoving at the bar, nothing short of a scrum in weatherspoons, then some idiot trying to get infront of everyone.
I know it wasn't fun for women I spoke to about it since the covid queues started, and it became much easier.
I'd order on an app if at all possible. |

There has been a marked decline in pubcraft since COVID. Getting served at the bar used to be a hard-won skill forged over many Friday nights of being overlooked in favour of more assertive regulars. Now people have become so used to soulless automation that they can't deal with the rough and tumble of a night out.

Some places do develop their own ways of doing things - I've seen it in drivers on some roads, who let others take priority, outside of standard norms.
Having bar service to be less cut and thrust and more relaxed and respectful, is a good thing.
Staff can chat with regulars, if they'd like changes |
