Dr John marks

Not particularly famous, but he should be.

Gave controlled drugs to people with addictions so they wouldn't die overdosing, oversaw it in a safe environment. Crime went down rapidly and police were really happy.

His practice was shut down by the thatcher government after protests from the Reagan administration overseas.

Dr marks had to emigrate to New Zealand.

I remember my mum first telling me about him. (He was her boss for a few years.)

I've seen him in documentaries since.

Going on holiday isn't always just about a change of scenery. Some people like to experience different cultures and ways of life. The US is pretty homogenous as a society. Though I have had this debate before and the American guy said that his state had better Mexican food..

Yeah. It took a while for him to realise what he said. His favourite American cuisine was actually Mexican cuisine.

"How you fuck up so fast? You the Usain Bolt of fucking up" made me spray tea out of my nose.

There's a clip where Oliver shows a bunch of kids how chicken nuggets are made and then smugly asks "now who would still eat them?"

They all put their hands up and his crushed little face gets me every time."

I saw a clip where he was making pasta and sloshing pasta water all over the place.

Commentating chef explained that if anyone did this kind of shit in a professional kitchen they would be sacked.

It’s all show, all contrived.

Those few sadly have a better understanding of the world and its cosmopolitan cultures

America is so BIG though why would you need to go anywhere else and they can't take their guns with them on the plane .

Two observations:

1. Texas was Mexican until it was annexed by the USA in the 1840s. A lot of Mexicans still feel it is theirs so the guy was probably correct about the food.

2. How can you say America is homogenised? Have you actually seen the country? There is literally no overlap between some upscale Californian and someone who has spent their life in Detroit. Someone who grows up in Montana has pretty much nothing in common with someone from Mahattan. Pick any two places in the USA and you can pretty much guarantee their lives are so much more different from each other than any two places in the UK.

Not sure I agree with anyone’s personal life being subject to unauthorised public scrutiny just for the sake of entertainment. Unless there’s a solid reasoning like public safety some things should stay private.

Could you imagine if your mistakes, sex escapades or simply just unflattering pictures were plastered over the internet for anyone to see. No thanks. That stuff can be damaging to peoples mental health

Even if you take the likes of Tiger Woods the golfer, can you imagine how his wife felt with all that dirty laundry in the media. And that’s now online forever for his kids and their friends to see or fellow peers to tease - Mrs

I think it comes with the territory a bit. Part of our culture to subject certain people to this.

And it's not like this is new. I think most of them who had a choice knew it'd be like this going in. (By "have a choice", the royals who were born into it don't)

I've worked in the US for ~ 2 years across 5 states. You aren't getting my analogy. Yes it may be slightly more exaggerated than travelling between rural Cumbria and London, but it is still far more homogenous than travelling from London to Norway, or Italy, or Greece or Hungary. Regardless of the terrain in the US, they still use their own money, shop in their normal stores, have the same history, eat (mostly) the same food, see the same TV. So it's not really culturally that different.

Incidentally the war against Mexico is the last war that the US won on its own, and the only one where it held onto the territory.

Respectfully, I disagree. I do agree he's an idiot, but as president he could make some significant changes that could alter the fabric of American society.

The undercurrent of right wing ideology that's supporting him is concerning.

And I know quite a lot about Hitler and how he came to power. Some of the similarities are startling.

I don't really have time to list them all, but I recommend reading up on some of the articles and academic studies which look into it in detail.

The two easy ones are labelling the media as fake news and enemies of the people, and demonising a group of people to blame for all 'your' problems.

It genuinely is fascinating and terrifying at the same time.

"Can’t believe I’m saying this but… Donald Trump.

Yeah he’s an idiot but he’s not this hitler-esquire character that much of the world and media try and paint him out to be."

Donald Trump who pretty much goaded his cult in to starting a civil war and is still at it today?

Donald Trump who is the convicted sex offender?

Donald Trump who has multiple accusations of being a pedo against him and was a close friend of Epstein?

Donald Trump who stole millions from the children’s charity he set up?

Donald Trump who called servicemen killed or wounded ‘losers’- despite dodging the draft due to physical incapacity, but also claiming OJ Simpson called him one of the final natural athletes he’d ever seen.

Donald Trump who was found with various classified documents at his residence, way after no longer being president and eligible to have them- with a dubious record of being linked to Putin and other shoddy dictators?

Donald Trump who mocked the disabled in a public speech?

Donald Trump, the self proclaimed genius businessman, who has bankrupted numerous companies and has hundreds of court cases against him for non payment of bills

Donald Trump who claimed he had to land his plane in an emergency recently, then drive 2 hours to a rally- despite there being a local airfield (that he just happened to owe money to) and mysteriously, his plane was fixed by the time he had to leave

Donald Trump who has pretty much openly stated he plans on getting rid of voting if he gets in and will go full on dictatorship

That’s just a brief overview of some of his many highlights….no idea why he gets a hard time

They really aren’t startling at all because there are no similarities, and it’s people like you that cause division and actually bring about extremism.

Because you tell others that they are supporting a hitler-esque character (when they aren’t) and ridicule them. Then those people will thinkWell I like Donald. They’re saying he’s the same as hitler - maybe H was demonised and made out to be worse than he was also? Maybe history was wrong? Maybe the media are calling him racist when he’s not, just like they’re doing to me” and then those people get welcomed with open arms by actual extremists who don’t ridicule them and they then get slowly groomed and radicalised.

When in reality if you just were realistic and not hyperbolic those people wouldn’t have felt so alienated and confused and would not have lost trust in others.

Which btw is something that is a documented fact as is happening around the world.

For clarity - no I am not saying that. I was explaining that by saying that trump and hitler are equal, you are diminishing the atrocities that hitler did, and paving the way for less educated people to think he wasn’t that bad if he’s “the same as trump”.

Taylor Swift.

Her songs are musically heinous and teenage-level sloppy drivel lyrics-wise, and her whole "artistry" is clearly just a branding and marketing operation.

Yet I can't hate her for it: she's just a shrewd businesswoman doing her thing, and doing it well, and the same can be said about many other much beloved artists.

Yeah he’s an idiot but he’s not this hitler-esquire character that much of the world and media try and paint him out to be.exactly remember their are 330million people in America and at least a third of them voted him in as their leader .

People voted for Hitler. And that turned out well.

It’s almost as if you didn’t understand the initial comment. Or maybe you’re not knowledgeable about hitler?

Either way, there’s no comparison whatsoever between the two

Respectfully, I disagree. I do agree he's an idiot, but as president he could make some significant changes that could alter the fabric of American society.

The undercurrent of right wing ideology that's supporting him is concerning.

And I know quite a lot about Hitler and how he came to power. Some of the similarities are startling.

Are you saying Hitler wasn't as bad as we think he was?

Stop the world I want off 😭

For clarity - no I am not saying that. I was explaining that by saying that trump and hitler are equal, you are diminishing the atrocities that hitler did, and paving the way for less educated people to think he wasn’t that bad if he’s “the same as trump”.

Or maybe less educated people are unaware of the similarities, including Trump calling to concentrate people in camps, and we risk sleepwalking into disaster.

Reading is useful. Thinking we're beyond this kind of horror is how we repeat it.

All American leaders have people in camps and they all drop bombs on kids there really is no lesser evil it’s literally pick your evil over there "

And yet one side is openly saying they'll make it worse 🤷‍♀️

I'm pretty sure I haven't ridiculed anyone or said anything to demonise or drive someone to extremism. I referred to similarities which are documented and academic studies which I believe is not hyperbolic and pretty realistic.

I like to think that I don't blindly believe anything that someone says just because I either like or dislike them.

At heart I'm a cynical old fuck which is why I research and take in as much information as possible on a person or subject before reaching a conclusion. Which in itself is amazing as I'm also a lazy bastard.

You reference people being alienated and lost. This is very true.

But who is pushing this agenda globally and to what end? As I said, it's fascinating and terrifying equally.

"Hitler.

Misunderstood

*Disclaimer he was a nutcase and managed to escape justice in a cowardly way*"

But he was only a dictator on one day. Of course on that one day he ended democracy and assured there was no recourse.

"Tommy Robinson.

His journalistic work is amazing and important for anybody that cares to watch it.

Little coward Tommy who has run away to hide?

And incites others so they can get arrested?

He is not a journalist . Hate propaganda is not journalism "

This exactly.

Ten names Tommy. Just a grifter who is happy to fleece his followers for their hard earned benefits.

Blaming brown people for every problem this country has is not journalism just race baiting rabble rousing.

"Can’t believe I’m saying this but… Donald Trump.

Yeah he’s an idiot but he’s not this hitler-esquire character that much of the world and media try and paint him out to be.

That’s just a brief overview of some of his many highlights….no idea why he gets a hard time "

Wow! We only wanted a name

"Katie Price the grief she gets with her oldest son there’s no place in this world for bully’s!

Harry & Meghan, Katie Price. Dianne Abbot & JK Rowling what they said about racism and periods was technically correct but politically unpopular for sheep too scared of a debate.

I’m not sure that labelling contrary views as ‘sheep’ is a good stance to begin a debate on but that’s your hill…

They don't want to debate the words they actually said , I just want to label them Or repeat the label somebody else gave them. So they are sheep"

Megan wants to change the world and she see an opening into the royal family and thought ching ching what bigger platform I know I’ll shag Harry. Harry’s the biggest fucking sheep of the lot. Katie Price is a reckless twat but herself and Harvey do not deserve the shit they get Harvey is an incredible young man and for that alone I hold respect for Katie
