It looks fascinating and in some cases a work of art, even though I know I wouldn't enjoy it, I can appreciate the beauty.

What do others think?

We adore it, to the point we did a lot of 1-1 lessons and then ended up, with the help of some very experience riggers, setting up a peer rope group.

There is some amazing riggers and bunnies on here too!

This is a site for people finding like minded people. People who enjoy shibari, find other like minded people who enjoy it too. It is not shit, nor does it require a psychiatrist. It does require a level of understanding that some people don't have, they open their mouth without engaging their brain, trying to sound smart.

Theres peer rope groups or organised events with very experience riggers up and down the country most weekends. Won't see them advertised on here but if you use that FETish LIFEstyle website the event calendar on there has most of them listed.

With Shibari you’re creating a work of art, and naughty fun is very much secondary.

I appreciate the craftsmanship but I find it dull. If I restrain someone I take a more practical rather than pretty approach.

I like to do it for the aesthetic. I don't get off on it, so I wouldn't class it as a kink. Its quite calming to do.

It's something I practice with the right person. There's different ways to look at Shibari.. in itself, it can be an artform. But I like to get the fine balance by incorporating by Shibari rope skills into the bedroom just to add that '20%' more spice to things... rather than just regular rope tying (which let's be honest, many people have tried and muddied through it) but I've been told that ladies like a man who knows what he's doing and being proficient in a few different types of knots can be a real game change in the bedroom.

It's each to their own and every kink is as valid as everyone else's. I find it fascinating in every aspect

It is without doubt a very special kink - to be a rigger takes an awful lot of knowledge and skill

It’s transcendental state to be achieved with out long term ill effects.

It all depends what your doing. The placement and the wraps laying flat will happen naturally as people get good at it. We can do a basic chest harness, a couple of foto's in such a way you can be suspended from them in say, less than 10 minutes. We could do a one rope take down and have you tied up in less than a minute for floor play. If we want to go up to a 3 rope TK I could be doing that for say 10 minutes before starting on any other ties to incorporate in.

"Oh I googled it. It’s…not my kind of thing. Just shit for perverts that need a psychiatrist more than they need a site to meet similar people "
I take exception to that remark.

It is actually a skill required art form. Shibari translates to The art of Japanese rope binding.

It can be aesthetic and functional it can be used for sexual purpose and it can also be painful.

There is a lot of technical stuff to learn, not just the rope side, but the human body, where the nerves are, pressure points, potential injury.

Once you move on from floor work, the technical side of it becomes even more important for suspension.

Just because it isn't your thing, don't knock other people because they enjoy tying or being tied

Like many Japanese practices, shibari bridges the art (do) and craft (jutsu). As part of my martial arts I became proficient in the sub specialisms of kusari fudo (chain weapon - though we used rope for safety) and hojojutsu (military/police use of rope as restraint methods). There is a lot of crossover- especially the knowledge of anatomy and physiology, biomechanics, leverage and pressure. Its far more involved than just tying some knots.

On the non-physical side it requires a tremendous amount of trust, communication and cooperation. If someone can't handle this side, it probably isn't for them.

I apologise for starting off what I thought would be an appreciation thered, in that you can admire something without necessary participating.

It has not turned out that way, I am truly sorry about that.

I will add that I still think it's a work of art and it takes skill to do, which I personally admire.

Hugs xx

There are many who do appreciate it on here. I think the more you know, the more you can appreciate it.

There are some who like the look of it, and some who just can't get it.. which is fine.

When you start a thread like this you can always expect differing points of view. It's the nature of the forums. Everyone's views are valid. Some may be more or less informed. And some views are expressed more eloquently or kindly.

This is a great discussion. I'm sure some people have taken positives from it

You have absolutely nothing to apologise for, I was the on individuals comment that I took exception to.

I have spent many frustrating and rewarding hours learning my craft, being able to perform it as safely as is possible with something that is to all intent and purpose a potentially dangerous edge play

"Oh I googled it. It’s…not my kind of thing. Just shit for perverts that need a psychiatrist more than they need a site to meet similar people

This is a site for people finding like minded people. People who enjoy shibari, find other like minded people who enjoy it too. It is not shit, nor does it require a psychiatrist. It does require a level of understanding that some people don't have, they open their mouth without engaging their brain, trying to sound smart.

Yes. Tying people up. Sure.

I’m not trying to sound smart. I assure you I am. It’s impressive how many people were offended by my opinion, but c’est La vie

No you were simply rude, judgemental and dismissivr.

If you had said, oh i googled it, not my thing, fair play, but you acted the c*nt 100%

Oh dear. Sensitive people. Ok, enjoy your kink. It’s just not for me.

That's all you had to say the first time.

I still think it’s borderline psychiatric, though. Sorry"

Shibari is literally recognised as rooe art.

So even you are close-minded to kink shame or you are insensitive to other cultures.

Pick one as there is no alternative. You should know this though because you say you are smart so you understand the nuance used by yourself.

My definition of Shibari although some use "Kinbaku" is that it is

"An erotic sadomasochistic activity in a Japanese style."

Therefore it's best for general use to equate shibari with the term "rope bondage". There are many different philosophies and styles of rope bondage. Styles range from Western Style to Chinese 5 Flowers, to Japanese influenced. Philosophies range from tantric to mindful to bedroom bondage,to primal to aesthetic.

As Graydancer put it there are four reasons for doing rope. 1. Fashion, it looks good and or looks good on me. 2. Fucking, I like to be tied and or tie and be fucked. 3, Fun, I like doing things with rope or things done to me with rope. 4, Fetish, I like doing things with rope or things done to me with rope and it really sparks certain neurons in my brain that it is super enjoyable.

Of course people can find more reasons.

At the end of the day like all kink it should be fun and consensual.

My preferred tying style is kinbaku. But I tie the person, so with some people it's more more mindful with others more aesthetic, erotic or whatever works for them.

So do you, and explore. There are huge amount of resources around.

I would also note

" ... the American Psychiatric Association announced that it would be changing the diagnostic codes for BDSM, fetishism, and transvestic fetishism (a variant of cross-dressing) in the next edition of its Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), published in 2013. The new definitions marked a distinction between behavior—for example, playing rough—and actual pathology. Consenting adults were no longer deemed mentally ill for choosing sexual behavior outside the mainstream."

I went to a couple of events on shibari & suspension found it quite slow & boring and at the end it was like is that it ?

I love tying people up for bondage but only so I can do things to them

It was probably slow so people can follow it and there are numerous safety considerations.

Because stuff like that matters when you teach people something that has the potential to damage a partner.

"It looks fascinating and in some cases a work of art, even though I know I wouldn't enjoy it, I can appreciate the beauty.

What do others think? "

Much like yourself it is a work of art although I am unlikely to ever be able to remember how to tie them

Definitely one of our favourite activities.

The act of tying is very sensual and requires a lot of time to get the pretty patterns or knots right. That means a lot of close proximity while naked without touching or playing. That builds the excitement.

Once rigged it allows us to explore some of our other kinks, that could be impact play or wax. Wax can be a bit messy if it gets on the rope.

If we do have sex while tied it adds and extra dimension the ability to use the rope to put M where I want her adds an extra dimension.

Then when done and in the come down there is the time to untie which adds a further dimension.

Lots of pics/vids on profile for you to enjoy.

Just because you don't like something doesn't mean other don't enjoy it. So stop trying to kink shame other people.

Oh I’m not putting shame. In the same way I wouldn’t put shame on a person with schizophrenia, or an agoraphobic person."

Kinks are not a mental illness though? Comparing people who enjoy it to people who are genuinely sick is shaming them.
