and usually the applications have to be matched against the person spec (hence the really important bit of the application the "relevant information", if you can match the spec, you should get an interview.............!
You'll be amazed at the number of people that don't know how to fill in an application form...........! |

Thanks for the responses. It was kind of a rhetorical question ..
I know what I need to do regarding the person spec etc .... I'm just crap at it and I'm doing the bloody job that I'm applying for!! |

Well ... with a little help from my friends (mainly ex-husband!) I've got an interview!
And because I'm working there I happen to know that I scored 79 out of 85 on the assessment. The highest score was 81!
Hope I can wrap it up next week.

Or write legibly...or spell without the aid of Mr Gates...or any number of things that can be used to the number of applications down to a manageable amount. |

Another mistake internal candidates make is not to include ALL their experiences from previous employment to support their application. They assume the person doing the sifting knows them and what they can do so omit information. An internal application should be completed with the same thought and attention to detail as an external one. |

Well.....
Had the interview, was very nervous as I was classed as an "internal" candidate and I was working very closely with the interview panel (both career minded women who are proper scary!!).
At the end of the interview I received fantastic feedback. They told me I ticked all the right boxes and answered all the questions correctly..... Woo Hoo!! Had it in the bag!
NOT!! One of the external candidates has been working at that level 10+ years, with 28 years local government experience..... my four weeks experience paled into significance
However ... its not all bad!! I got to carry on doing the job that I didn't get for the next 6 weeks. But ..... they want to give me a fixed contract for at least 4 months which gives me all the benefits in the hope that in an "upcoming" review a vacancy will become available.
Twas a bummer and was disappointed but wasn't all bad news and these things happen for a reason!!
