So the other night we were out with friends and one of the girls straight faced and without a hint of irony said to me, "I am 26 now and getting on a bit, I am going to be over the hill soon."
Honestly I was left speechless. |

Crikey I'm 54 - I must have rolled down that hill and landed in sleep mode then! |

Honestly the group ended up split into two. The 20 and 30 something's all agreeing with her whilst the 40 plus group trying unsuccessfully to say that they were not old and living life to the fullest was the best thing to do.
I think it was the youngs insecurities coming out. |

I live over the hills.. The white horse is very close to me.
I hate hills... I live under a sand made hill which has collapsed and the weather today may push it further. |

Well it seemed to be about careers, looks and relationships." I suppose when your young you haven't fathomed that theirs not much to life except to be happy, far to many people think that working 24/7 and earning money are the thing to do, set yourself up for when you're old but the reality is life goes so quick and working isn't the answer, working is a waste of life, so a little work and a lot of enjoyment works for me |

It's a standard way of viewing things isn't it though? When I was in my mid twenties I thought I'd be over the hills in my thirties. Now I see 40+ as being middle aged.
I think the older you are the more you appreciate being old(er). |

Can be the impact of omnipresent social media sadly. |

Yes when you are young 40 plus is past it because it is the age of your parents I guess.
I would agree that you appreciate being older but you also appreciate being young, it did get me wondering what I was like at that age but my memory fails me |

Exactly this. There's no way 26 year old me would have listened to a 50 year old friend telling me how great being 50 was.
It's inconceivable to that person, but when they're 50, they'll be telling 26 year olds the same thing. |

had the same with young friends/or people in a group of like 21 telling me I am past it , no growth anymore ..
I just politely laughed and asked them how is their plan going on being able to rent a big apartment / own a nice car outright . or buy some properly before they are 30 . ended that conversation almost immediately with two of them walking off |
