Looking like a very promising series.
History Channel
Vikings follows the adventures of Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel) the greatest hero of his age. The series tells the sagas of Ragnar's band of Viking brothers and his family, as he rises to become King of the Viking tribes. As well as being a fearless warrior, Ragnar embodies the Norse traditions of devotion to the gods, legend has it that he was a direct descendant of Odin, the god of war and warriors. -- IMDb Plot: Vikings (2013– )
Gabriel Bryne stars as does Vladimir Kulich (13th Warrior)

But the Norse (and the Danes and ss) were only Vikings when they were raiding and killing. For the vast majority of the 300 years that they were on the scene (from about 750 to 1066) as European players they were traders, explorers and settlers.
The Danes of the force (who conquered Northumbria and Mercia and were beaten by Alfred) never described themselves as Vikings, nor were they described as such while the Norse who raised merry hell in the late 8th and 9th centuries were Vikings but were describes as Norsemen (old English for northern men)..... |
