I bought my daughter a iPhone 3GS for her birthday she's dropped it more times than I've posted in this forum and now it's developed a problem as follows it started with going flat real quick and taking ages to turn back on once on charge but when it turned on it would have 70% battery charge and then would charge to full after a few hours it would be flat and turn off and so the cycle would start again now it won't turn on at all does anyone have any ideas could it be the battery ?

Brighton - even Hove!

It might be a reconditioned phone with an old battery. They can change it all for about £50. The battery will run flat faster if you have 'location services' switched on - make sure it's switched off.

sounds like it but unless you know how to change the battery yourself your just as well buying a new phone then paying someone to do it for you

Seen a genuine battery on amazon for less than tenner and looked on you tube to see how it's done seems simple but fidley although I thought I'd ask on here to see if anyone had a similar prob with there's in the past ?

In a crisp poke on the A814

People forget that you have to charge battery full before doing anything....It messes up the battery life....

If your daughter anything like mine, she would have let it charge all of 30secs before gettin stuck into it

Sounds fucked to be honest

As the phone won't work you have nothing to lose. You can get a new battery for a few quid on eBay, they're easy to change on the 3GS. Go on to a site called ifixit for detailed instructions on how to do it.

Newcastle and Gateshead

how many apps is she running at the same time.... the more apps you run, the less battery charge she will get...... plus like someone above me said, anything that uses location services or gps is a battery killer.....

tap the button twice and it should bring up all the programs running in the background and close them down

Some pretty bizarre advice coming in for a phone that doesn't turn on

Op as mentioned above you can pick up batteries pretty cheap. If you don't feel confident changing it yourself. Electronic shops will supply and fit for about £20

I have to charge mine a couple of times a day, plus overnight. Mind you it gets a lot of use

Biggest drain on yr battery is the screen brightness ! Turn it down, you'll be amazed how much further the charged battery will go

I picked up an old 3GS to use as a music player on my bike, it had similar symptoms but would turn on if plugged in, changed the battery following steps on the net. Easy but fiddly now works fine.

Battery cost £7 on eBay and came with special tools to help with the change.

Worth a try at least. Good luck.
