Interesting question.
There has been many a time when the car has been on the drive and completely unlocked.
As for my door, yes I honestly think I can leave it unlocked.
There are only 12 houses in my road though |

"I wouldn't do it on purpose, but once I left my door open overnight and no ill came of it "
I was just about to say this
The door didn't close properly and the wind blew it wide open during the night

I went to unlock the door to go out for work on Monday morning, and found it unlocked. I realised I'd opened it for my FWB to come round, in case he arrived whilst I was in the shower, but he never came over and I forgot I'd unlocked it...
I've done it before, and I'm sure it'll happen again, but I don't make a habit of it. Have also left my car unlocked, luckily it's still been where I left it. |

Yes
I don't use the alarm that often either.
It would be a difficult place to ransack, due to the layout of the road..really not worth the hassle if I were a burglar..
Also I've noticed deliveries are left outside regularly, when occupants aren't in, (referring to another thread). It's that safe.
Someone I know that lived in Glasgow had everything taken in a break in. Literally pretty much everything. They even took the curtains. The only thing that wasn't taken was a Paula Abdul CD.
I laughed when they told me that.
-They didn't see the humour though..
(Understandably.) |

"My postcode was once the most burgled post code in the UK.
My back door used to always be unlocked until bedtime, but not any more.
Don't want the bailiffs letting themselves in " omg the bailiffs |

This is a low crime area. I don't leave the front door open because the dog and cat would get out, but I could.
The lock on our back door was broken for about 3 years and I couldn't lock it, even if we went out (which wasn't that often, but we did it occasionally). Never had a problem.

Yes I can.
Next door are currently having a lot of work done to their property - noise wise and also because I'm fond of being braless and in pyjama shorts and don't want unsuspecting workmen to walk past that sight, I'm going to say right now no I couldn't. |

Do you mean unlocked or actually ajar (open)? Would never leave either door open. I know someone who left front/top small windows open and they had left bottom larger one unlocked (it summer) at night. Someone reached in and tried to open the lower window. A lot of thefts are opportunists. |

"I’ve left my back door unlocked by mistake one night so I probably could leave the front door and be fine
Be careful with back door security!"
I've never had any trouble with strangers coming in my back door. |

"Not only can I leave my front door open I’ve even left my car keys in the ignition overnight and been most disappointed that my car wasn’t taken…"
ive left the front door keys in the door a few times, especially when carrying stuff in and forget to take them out the lock |

It probably isn’t safe to do so but I’ve accidentally left it open all day and been fine.
Worst one was leaving the car keys in the car cup holder all weekend. Didn’t realise until Monday morning when I couldn’t find my keys |

I have on numerous occasions forgotten to lock the front door, forgotten to lock and left it slightly ajar, left the back door wide open.
People are far too nosey where I live for anything to happen. |

Doors unlocked and even open so the dog can pass in and out and also keys in cars but obviously there may be a time when a passing bad person takes advantage of our slack security.
I love living here.

General area? No.
The flats where I live? Yes.
There are only 4 flats per floor, and the three neighbours on my floor are all fab. If I'm just nipping down to the lounge or to the bins I will leave my door ajar, but if I'm off out for the day I probably wouldn't chance it just in case someone from another floor goes wandering (unlikely but you never know). |
