"Just listening to a song that poses this question so I thought I'd open it up to the philosophers of Fab. What do you think?"
From the various things I've seen on t'internet, you'll get a different reply from each of the current 'generations'! |

Life itself has no meaning.
The human mind gives our life meaning.
If you spend all your time looking for meaning you miss life.
In short..... Bad thoughts = bad actions = bad life.
Good thoughts = good actions = good life.
Stop looking at yesterday and tomorrow.
Climb over today and a new day dawns....
Enjoy them all |

Nope- we’re put here without asking because our parents wanted us here so we basically have to use the tools we were given by them and make the most of your time here |

Knowing our personal mission further enhances the flow of mysterious coincidences as we are guided toward our destinies. First we have a question, then dreams, daydreams, and intuitions lead us toward the answers, which usually are synchronistically provided by the wisdom of another human being |

So yes."

Jesus - I was in a bad mood and feeling really bleak before reading some of the comments on here.
Life has a meaning to me. My life & the lives of those around me. Life means, laughter, joy, sorrow, pain, music, conversation, art, sport, sickness, food, nature. It’s what we do with it that creates the meaning. The experiences we share or go through alone.
Moments. The meaning of life is moments. Enjoy them, savour them, learn from them.
And then - yes - we die.
But fuck if I’m doing that before I’ve had my allocation of moments. |

It has many meanings and they change, evolve over time, but only two absolute truths remain constant and consistent

I've been taught that each person is intrinsically divine and the purpose of life is to seek and realise the divinity within all of us. Totally non-exclusive and accepting of all other faiths and religious paths.
Feeling of interconnectedness – a transcendence of boundaries or dividers. Intense heart-opening, and awareness of the inherent goodness of all beings. We gain the ability to see beauty everywhere, in everything and everyone. |

I listen to a band called citizen soilder, who's songs are all about mental anguish of any kind from the prospective of the on looker and if your are the one suffering and it helped me find myself in some dark places, so yes I'd say there is meaning and to never give up so you can hold on to that meaning |

OP - using a lens encompassing Wittgenstein's language games and Jacques Derrida's carnophallogocentrism, could you please critique what you mean by "meaning" and what you mean by "life"?
Derrida's différance and iterability would, of course, come into play.
Failing that, have a wank imagining giving a young Simone de Beauvoir one whilst ugly old JPS is tied up and cock-caged in the corner.
They liked that stuff.

You may be pushing a boulder up a hill here I think. When push comes to shove though, it's how you feel about your situation that truly matters.
Why place primacy in language at all? Perhaps it is an obstacle as much as a vehicle to connection or meaning and as such should all be placed sous rature.
Or perhaps Derrida just liked talking the knickers off women? |

I'm not sure it matters what we've learned up to this point. More that the advances in technology and knowledge sharing will have impacts far beyond our current comprehension. |

We are born, no choice there. We die, no choice or limited choice there. What you do in between is channelled with most doing the same thing day in, day out. No choice or limited choice there too.
So very little meaning to life except that, throughout my life, including my period as a funeral director, I have seen many things that question whether death is the end. There may be more meaning in death than in life. |

Yes it does have meaning. We are born into a certain time, space and place in life. We have a choice to be the best we can be. To strive to make the world a better place even in small ways. That matters! Life is always evolving, growing and changing but it’s whether we are creative or destructive that defines us and will ensure our success as a species. If we fail… meh life will continue with another species somewhere. We are stardust in the cosmic soup |

"Just listening to a song that poses this question so I thought I'd open it up to the philosophers of Fab. What do you think?"
I turn to a great philosopher for his take on the meaning of life.
.
His take was that there is a vanity to existence, and that we see this futility as life unfolds.
.
"Futility is revealed in the whole form existence assumes: in the infiniteness of time and space contrasted with the finiteness of the individual in both; in the fleeting present as the sole form in which actuality exists; in the contingency and relativity of all things; in continual becoming without being; in continual desire without satisfaction; in the continual frustration of striving of which life consists. Time and that perishability of all things existing in time that time itself brings about is simply the form under which the will to live, which as thing in itself is imperishable, reveals to itself the vanity of its striving. Time is that by virtue of which everything becomes nothingness in our hands and loses all real value."

There's not a day goes by I don't feel regret. Not because I'm here, because you think I should. I look back on the way I was then: a young, stupid kid who did stupid things. I want to talk to him. I want to try to talk some sense to him, tell him the way things are. But I can't. That kid's long gone, and this old man is all that's left. I got to live with that. Rehabilitated? It's just a bullshit word. So you go on and stamp your form and stop wasting my time. Because to tell you the truth, I don't give a shit. |

Nature doesn't give us meaning to life. We need to build the meaning ourselves. Religious people get it out of religion.
Me personally? I think humans make the universe beautiful. What's the point of all this beauty if there isn't anyone to admire it? So I spend my life admiring the beauty of cosmos and get meaning in my life out of it. |

Sing writers are today’s philosophers. I love some really good lyrics that make you think.
Life can feed your soul, but it only has meaning if it’s something you want. A lot of my life was existing, and it didn’t have meaning.
Dare to dream, and why can’t you want to live that dream? … unless your dream is running round time square naked.. that might not work out to well. But you know what I mean.
Travel, eat wonderful food. Enjoy times with great people. Create stories to hand down to those who will listen and be inspired to find meaning in their own lives one day. Damn, if we are born to reproduce a new generation, make them want a good one. |

In every day language he was saying .....
Life feels pointless because everything is so big, and we're so small. We live in the present, but it's always changing, and nothing lasts forever. We always want more, but we're never truly satisfied. Time keeps going, and everything eventually fades away, showing us that our efforts don't really matter in the end.
And I believe people here had already said that .....

His work was basically a rehash of Buddhist philosophy only without the part about liberation that makes it ultra-pessimistic as liberation was the positive part in Buddhist philosophy.
But I do believe he is still well respected. Nietzsche for instance, mentions his name in his writings many times, agreeing with him on many things but not all. |

"Cheese"
In the realm of gastronomic indulgence, cheese emerges as a sublime manifestation of existence's dual nature – an amalgamation of pleasure and suffering, both captivating and enigmatic. In its pungent aroma and rich texture, one discerns the eternal struggle between the will to consume and the inexorable forces of decay. The cheese, with its myriad of flavors, mirrors the intricate tapestry of human desires, forever oscillating between satiation and longing. Like life itself, it teases with transient delights, yet beneath its savory veneer lies the harsh reality of impermanence, as it succumbs to the relentless march of time. Thus, in savoring the essence of cheese, one confronts the profound truth of existence – that beauty and transience are inseparable companions on the journey through the labyrinth of being. |

The concepts of optimistic nihilism, existential nihilism, existentialism, nihilism vs. existentialism and absurdism are all important philosophical concepts that can help individuals find purpose and meaning in life.
Science tells us the universe came from a big bang, and then will eventually collapse in on itself as it reaches entropy. But it fails to reason why human reason, derived from brains that are the end-product of mindless evolutionary forces, should be a trustworthy tool for understanding reality or should even exist. And yet, here we are, on Fabs, contemplating. |

Yeah Nietzsche is pretty hard to read. I made the mistake of taking up Twilight of idols first and didn't understand a damn thing. His style of aphorisms was very hard to grasp. But I recommend starting with Geneology of morals. It's clearly written in an essay format. |
