Police Clamp Down on Lycra Louts

Chelmsford

Reports that the City of London Police, which few have heard of and are largely ceremonial, have clamped down on cyclists, often referred to as Lycra Louts in Londons City Centre also known as the square mile. Over 1000 fines for jumping red lights, 80 arests and nearly 200 illegal e-bikes and scooters seized. Something has to be done about these buggers cocking a snoot at the law. What's going on here guys. It's all over the news

It looks like something is being done.

Lots of fines, arrests and seizing property.

They've only appear to have missed out the offences of middle aged men wearing lycra.

My guess is this will go off topic quicker than a very quick thing… on a bike … in a sprint race… it’s actually a good thing when all road users obey the rules of the road - it’s likely a small %age of cyclists whose attitude tarnishes their reputation… but they should also have insurance and contribute to the road fund licence as other road users do. Police should employ a cyclist stinger like the one for car drivers - only completely different… like a big fishing net that captures them when they jump a red light…. Or fail to indicate a turn …. Or speed…or get in the way when im trying to do 85mph in a 20 zone past a school…. Responsibly!!!

Its all about money Tom thought you would know that, its easier to get money out of people using the law to accomplish it

Nicole does not jump red lights, she prefers to wait in front of motorists at red lights whilst wiggling her Lycra clad terrier at them to prevent red light jumping from all vehicles.

P.s. she’s only been rear ended a couple of times.

What about lager louts in Lycra?

Is this suitable street drinking attire?

Just around the corner

The City of London Police are no more ceremonial than any other regional force (sorry, ‘service’). Their jurisdiction only covers the tiny (but very wealthy) City of London district.

I wish they’d also clamp down on imbeciles behind the wheel who are equally as dangerous on the road.

Sounds lagerist to me? What’s going on here? Is this the next police scandal?

London/Sussex/Surrey/Berks/Hants

As someone's sure to point out, some motorists do this too.

IMHO, anyone who breaks the Highway Code should be held accountable.

I am afraid I am not very good with lyrca or with Lycra clad street drinkers now with exaggerated paunchs ( in my head )

Nor with idiots who race over the road on a red light

Punctures to the lot of them … Inc the drinkers is what I say !!

"Largely ceremonial"? Really?

What few have heard of is that they have specialist units who quietly conduct some of the most intricate and intensive investigations not just in the UK, but internationally - and whose advice is often sought by law enforcement agencies worldwide...

Richard thinks Nicole is a very good bicyclist and to show his gratitude would definitely not overtake her and cause her distress if he was to end up behind her.

Perhaps she isn't but I reckon Nicole probably still deserves to be clamped down

Imagine the insurance form to fill in if there was an accident?

“Nicole was rear ended vigorously by _ellhungvwe”

"… but they should also have insurance and contribute to the road fund licence as other road users do. "

Hooray for me!

When I lived in the UK, I had bike insurance AND contributed via vehicle excise licences for my motor vehicles. (The VEL is based on emissions, so not sure how extending them to bikes will generate any money?).

Why do so many people assume cyclist have neither insurance nor one or several VELs for other vehicles?

Now I have bike insurance and road tax in Spain. Another hooray!!
