When bored, my mind tends to ponder various things - recently, it has come to questions of ethics. So opinions please;

Which is worse, cheating whilst in a relationship or visiting a “lady of negotiable affection” (tip of the cap to Sir Terry Pratchett)? Not considering cheating BY visiting such a lady - that’s pretty much a non-brainer to me!

I don't understand the question. Why is it not cheating if you pay?

I don’t see how cheating wouldn’t be worse?

Carlisle usually

A consensual transaction between two adults or betraying someone who you lead to believe you care about them?

It really depends on your moral compass OP.

Cheating has horrendous consequences.

Paying someone for sex may not have. But then again it may do.

Oh what a quandary

Sorry, it's late. I've re-read. You can ignore my previous post.

You used the phrase 'non brainer'.... I'd apply this to your question generally.

Cheating is worse. Obviously. How can it be any different?

Cheating while in a relationship or paying for sex while in a relationship? Both are as bad as each other.

"A consensual transaction between two adults or betraying someone who you lead to believe you care about them?"

I genuinely hadn’t thought of it that way, that pretty much resolved the entire discussion!

Perhaps OP could have made it a little clearer if he'd put the options the other way around

I.e. paying for sex OR cheating on a partner

In other words, the two being mutually exclusive.

That's how I read it.

Cheating is worse, obviously

Yes, to me that’s the non-brained. It’s more the cheating in a relationship vs simply paying for sex that I was thinking about.

However another answer has pretty much resolved the question of ethics!

Yep, it seems to be a lot clearer when phrased correctly!

It's not the sex.

It's the lying.

Monogamy works to the advantage of men, especially when their female partners are too exhausted looking after young children.

Monogamy is unnatural. Therefore I think honesty and fairness should be the cornerstone of every partnership.

Sadly, too many cheating males are very jealous of their wives because they know full well that when that barrier of monogamy is broken, then the men find themselves outclassed by better lovers.

Lucky are those who enter a partnership without limits or religious illusions... preferably when they're in their sexual prime.

Personally I don't think it's that straightforward or simple.

Central

It depends on the explicit or implied agreement not to cheat. It likely covers all forms of engagement, including sexually of any type.

Don't harm or hurt people, consider them.

Somewhere

A sex worker may not always be consenting. So ethically I feel that has the potential to be worse from that perspective.
