I lived in Budapest for seven years before, during and after the fall of communism. It is, without doubt,my favourite city in the world. If course, it would have changed a lot over the last 30+ years but people still speak very highly of it.
Please do some research into the cities (Obuda the old part, Pest the new part). No matter how long you go there for, it will not be long enough.
