I just had a eureka moment!

I'm considering the purchase of some new garden dining furniture and I needed to figure out the diagonal length of my square patio (I'd come back in, locked the back door and put the tape measure away when I realised I need this).

Pondering whether to ask Alexa or Google it, I had a sudden flash of inspiration that took me back to geometry in my maths classes... Of course it's Pythagoras that tells us how to calculate it!

Turns out that some 40 years after learning the theory, it actually did come in useful after all.

What else did you think was a waste of time at school, but actually has come in handy since?

Now... If I could just remember why I needed to know that measurement.

Just so I can't get accused of killing your excellent thread prematurely, the above translates as:

"Learning how to use the alphabet in order to spell words".

That was an utterly useless skill to learn .

Trigonometry and physics are really important - how else are you going to ensure that the angle of the dangle is proportional to the lust of the thrust?

I wish I HAD been taught that at school... Necessity forced me to teach myself when my ex husband gave me a horrendous surname

Just don't mix up the lust and the thrust in that equation!
