Go Woke Go Broke

Seems to be the mantra from America. The Bud Light saga being the best example. They say if America sneezed then Europe wipes it's nose. Will it soon be that English companies clambering to prove their woke credentials will lose out financially like BD Lite |

"Nike will be next with their purple george cross. Lolol
The worrying thing is what this message says to the young and impressionable
That it's OK to be different? "
It's fine to be different. Each and every one of us. But the snowflakes and woke brigade take things too far. Actively looking for something that offends them then screaming about it to get the attention they crave. Using the "woke" moniker to justify vandalism and sabotage. These are the people I don't agree with. The 'look at me' generation. |

Different view I guess.
Most of the people getting angry and screaming that I see is because something has changed and they don't like anything ever being different.
Anything that upset the status quo seems to offend them. |

Ehh? You seem to have this backwards.
People are labeled woke generally by daily mail readers, not the other way around. |

"People who throw the word 'woke' around as if it is an insult often have no idea what it means.
Most of us that use it do so in the context of what it means to us so I'm correct when I use it. "
Is that what language is? Using words the way you interpret it?
I thought it was about communication and common understanding. Silly me. I should really re-apple my kumquats in order to banana in tomato. |

If by woke you mean polite, caring and happy to celebrate that we are better when we try and support and understand each other. I’m happy to be woke and wear it as a badge of pride. |

Woke isn't real. Just another dumb buzz word used by people to shut down any discussion about the constantly changing barriers of social acceptance. Society evolves but people don't. Some people are scared of changes and more so when the changes make them feel irrelevant. The government uses language to trigger responses by certain groups and to divide and rule. But in the end the line between freedom and control is drawn by us. |

And where does tradition get maintained? Does it have no value? Purpose? Support? |

"These wind up threads from this guy are getting worse.
So Bud Lite did not crash ?its still on the menu at spoons £2.89 a pint
They can't give it away in the USA"
Licensed trade professional here. Used to be coalface in bars. Moved up.
The last 15 years has been all about a switch in drinking habits. Standard, branded, long-established beers have been falling off long term. Even little local pubs will have a craft - or, importantly, a corporate fake craft - beer on.
Bud Light was always a weak brand. Proper Bud is bad enough but light? It was declining so fast before the Dylan Mulvaney nonsense. I mean if you really want I can show you stats. The Bud Light line over the Lagunitas, Brewdog, fake-rebadged "house own" pilsner lines tell the story.
If Dylan Mulvaney had never existed - which I wouldn't mind about, I think she's an annoying prat - Bud Light would still be dying on it's arse. It's nothing to do with eager-to-be-annoyed old Daily Mail fuckers who never used to buy it anyway. |

"And where does tradition get maintained? Does it have no value? Purpose? Support? "
I love tradition.
I like the Grand National. I like Christmas Dinner. I like egg-rolling on Avenham Park on Easter Saturday. I like Durham Big Meeting. I like walking around in late August picking up conkers. I like the first day of the Lords test, and the shipping forecast on Radio 4, and a well-tailored suit.
And I especially love the great old Old Great British Tradition of laughing like drains at silly old fools who have convinced themselves that their own outdated, ragged old tatterdemallion prejudices are some kind of eternal truth. Have a WORD, my dear old chap. |

How is Nike's purple George cross woke?
It's not a George cross unless it's red on a white background "
Sure, still doesn't explain why some people seem to think the design is woke though. |

"What the hell does woke mean? Is there such a word? "
The word derives from African American English, if memory serves, and it means being aware of social injustices or something like that.
It's often used by the right as a catch-all for anything they think is wrong, stupid, or destroys society. Think badly reheated "political correctness gone mad". |

"What the hell does woke mean? Is there such a word? "
It's a word that's come to replace the older phrase politically correct.
Does it go too far occasionally? Maybe, but the alternative is WAY worse. If you are old enough to remember.
It's a word that's useful for online demagogues to get clicks. .. Because Gregg's sell a vegan option, then that's woke, for someone like piers morgan..& the world is going to end & stuff..
If your whole business model is selling outrage, then the word becomes necessary.
-Keep stoking that fire, otherwise you make no money. |

Exactly.
Do things sometimes go too far? Sure. Always.
Does the mere existence of vegan food/ Muslims who want to pray/ people who want to seek medical care (etc) mean that western civilisation is going to crumble? Probably not. You're not you when you're hangry, have a Snickers etc. |
