Has anyone had it and managed to cure it? if so any pointers

I have had it all my life but only very mild and only on occasion I say things.

About a week ago though I was walking along with Shaz and there was this little old lady waiting on the edge of the road holding out her hand to flag down a bus, I shouted something real bad at her and it made her jump and nearly fall over, I felt so terrible after and also just the other day I shouted something at a friend of ours while she was visiting us that wasn't very appropriate

I have had behavioral therapy for both tourettes and ocd, been on medication for it and also tried joining a forum for it but just seems to make things worst so just wondered if any of you lot knew anything useful?

Most of the time it is funny and I will laugh at it as much as the next person, it's just the odd time it's a pain.

First of all, sorry to hear you are living with somethign that can sometimes cause you distress.

From my experience of people affected by it - I have never disliked anybody for that, nor have i found them in any way, shape or form objectionable. I find the situations quite amusing tbh.

I also understand that stress will make matters worse whereas a feeling of being in relaxed company has a good effect on those who live with Tourettes

Yes, stress does make it worst, it's normally only when i'm stressed at or with something it shows it's head!

Think it's why I shouted something to the little old lady because I was stressed (wet, cold, everyone pushing everyone)

It can be ammusing most of the time, me and Shaz have been in fits laughing at it sometimes but it can get me in trouble, I hate to think if that old lady had fell in front of that bus

It's something that don't normally bother me, I'm just a bit cautious to go out now as I feel there is few people that know what it is and just think I might be putting it on or just foul mouthed.

I really feel for you. Sadly our society is so ignorant and judgemental. That really isn't meant to sound patronising, it is sincere and empathetic.

You are you, the more you think about it the worse you'll make it. You shouldn't have to try to change who you are because of ignorance. If that makes sense.

You could give meditation a try and learning reiki might help too, reiki is excellent for relaxation.

Makes perfect sence thanks, it's just the problems it can cause that is the scary part. I did once get into a spot of bother blurting the wrong thing out to a rather large chap once but after some pushing and shuffing and me explaining things we had a laugh about it (fortunately)

How bizzare, I thought about hypnotherapy to help me quit smoking but never though about it helping with the random shout generator in my head, even the behavioral therapy classes didn't say anything about that, Thanks I will look into it!

If it's the one I'm thinking about that was on about 2 year ago? then yes was real funny, it even set me of and can be annoying when trying to watch a program and Shaz is crying laughing! lol

Meditation does help while meditating but back to normal when not, that is something the BT told me to try but not long lasting

hi it was only last year I'd seen it and was about a group of severe tourette suffeers and they all practiced for a musical show

the funniest bit was the handsome piano guy getting a kiss from his gorgeous gf..his tourettes kicked in and he shouts "HARDON!"

it was/is a really heartwarming show...just showing people can challenge severe disabilities, sometimes just by doing something they love

The one I watched was a series over a few weeks but can't remember what it was called now and can't find it!

Never shouted hard on before but have shouted boner to a shop assistant when about 18

I don't think I could do anything public because I just know I would have it on the back of my mind and something would bound to come out lol

What kind of meditation did you try? There thousands of them out there so it could be you just need to find the right one for you, also the more it's done the more affective it is so if you did 5-10mins everyday for a week and then gave up then no it's not going to help it's something that needs to be done regularly. Reiki would help keep you relax when your not meditating because you can use the energy when your doing your normal daily task, same with reiki the more you practice the better you get.

I did meditation 3 times a week from 9yo to about 16yo as did self defence. The BT gave me a method on a sheet to follow, I tried for a few months but didn't help, maybe to many distractions.

It's quite hard to do now though as never really got enough free time to myself.
