Morning all. I was flabbergasted when I mentioned at work I buy a newspaper . The younger element looked at me like I was a madman. Is it a generational thing.

No.

I prefer to get my misinformation, propaganda, ill-considered rationalisations and fabrications of false identities from any number of instantly accessible online sources rather than the more limited number of traditional print rubbish.

57 year old who worked in newspapers/mags for 4 years in the 90s (advertising - which is basically what newspapers are about. Advertising makes the owners a lot of money, cover prices usually don't, and that money gives them access to abuses of power and ever-more interesting degrees of corruption).

So...no.

We haven't bought a newspaper for years. We get our news from the net, you'd have to buy a copy of very paper including foreign language to get the same coverage.

My dad has a paper delivered every day except Sunday. He doesn't 'believe' in Sunday papers because of the tone of the content

I think it's a generational thing yes ..

I remember by Dad and Grandad always used to buy a Sunday paper ..

But that probably had more to do with the racing pages

I'm of an age where I should be buying a newspaper, but I embraced the digital age in about 1987, with BB's and online forums (Good old USR modems).

I stopped buying newspapers & any types of magazines back then and never looked back.

For and years I enjoyed getting 2 or 3 on Sunday morning and just have a coffee and spend hours going through the papers. Nice and relaxing. Sadly not much of that recently.

Haven't bought a Newspaper since about 1995 when we left the country to live abroad. When we came back to the UK we had the internet and 24hr TV news so decided we didn't need it.

I think it is. I used to get one religiously and get through all the supplements during the week, but haven't done in years. Might go back to is actually - there's something very comforting about it.

Nope, can't remember the last time we bought any newspaper. We prefer to just make up stories ourselves.

I never buy a newspaper.

When I was a child we bought and read them cover to cover every day and had at least 2 papers on a Sunday. I do miss a good read on a Sunday BUT.......

For me to have a paper every day would be approx £20.00 per week or not far off. That's £80 per month so it's a no go for me. I used to be able to afford them so it does bring home to me how we get less for our buck these days.

I use the net, the t.v. , my phone and my LIFESAVER the METRO

The changes in reading habits are no doubt down to technological change and the speed of news. I have NO idea how the papers manage to survive. They are at least 14% more expensive than last year. Their circulation must be considerably smaller than a couple of decades ago.

"i like doing the crosswords "

Dave. Dave. So do I. I do them online though.

I used the Independent site so that I can still do their crosswords and sometimes I use other paper sites too.

I buy a newspaper once a year. I don’t read it but use the pages to wrap my cake tins in when I bake my Christmas cakes.

I use to buy a Sunday newspaper The News of the World until it stopped in 2011.I bought the Sun on Sundays for about a year after that.Since 2001 I get a free copy of a newspaper called the Metro which you can get on London Underground as well as on the buses as well as Bus garage. It’s only available Monday to Friday.I am not sure if it’s available outside of London. Been a typical man I only read the sports section.

Reading

Newspapers are garbage anyway, the owners distort the truth to suit their own agenda.

The only one worth reading is the FT, or maybe the guardian.
