"Newt Scamander?
Totally would."
Me too.....
As for non magic newts I don't think they have penises. I know little about them also but I have a storage area in my brain for weird (animal) sex facts. I think they "deposit" in water and it all gets mixed up in a mixing bowl with eggs. |

The Old English name of the animal was efte, efeta (of unknown origin), resulting in Middle English eft; this word was transformed irregularly into euft, evete, or ewt(e). The initial "n" was added from the indefinite article "an" by provection (juncture loss) ("an eft" ? "a n'eft" ? ...) by the early 15th century. The form "newt" appears to have arisen as a dialectal variant of eft in Staffordshire, but entered Standard English by the Early Modern period (used by Shakespeare in Macbeth iv.1).
Thank you Wikipedia for the etymology of newt.

"The Great Crested newt is a protected species and is the biggest newt species in the UK. It's also known as the Warty Newt. "
Do you think the newts got pissed off at being called Warty and campaigned for the name change? |

Newt Gingrich is the Republican politician who was Speaker of the House of Representatives from 1995-99. He was key in pushing the strategy that the opposition should not be treated as opponents but as the enemy and they should be maligned as much as possible, even lied about. He is largely responsible for the combative attitude that led to Trump becoming president.
Newt is a silly name. Who looks at a baby and thinks "Richard? David? No, he looks like a Newt to me". |

"The great crested newt is rare
You need a licence to touch newts"
And a license to do certain things around them that may harm them. Some things are easier in December/January, for example, when they are lead likely to be active. |

Typically pond maintenance type activities. For the great crested newts there's a duty of care that we have, as they're a protected species.
Obviously other newts deserve our care too. We'd had the protected newts on some of our land, before development work, so a new pond and run off area was created for them, due to their protected status. I don't live there now but sometimes go by it, to look out for them but it's a really large area that got created for them. |

"Newts are often an ingredient in/component of a witch's/Wizard's spell... apparently.
Eye of newt and toe of frog, Wool of bat and tongue of dog…"
Well there you go…. You learn something everyday on Fab!
The ingredients are actually plants with “eye of newt” being a mustard seed |

Are rough-skinned newts toxic? "
Yup, 10,000 times more toxic than cyanide according to the link I found. They're in the US/Canada though. A man died after eating one. Oops.
