Going on our first cruise soon.

Watched some YouTube clips.

Watch Carry On Cruising, and a few episodes of Love Boat. Everything you need to know is covered by these two.

Make a note of the boarding time, especially if you are off exploring ports on your own. If you have not booked excursions through the ship and you are late they will not wait for you.

Don’t forget your camera, Norway is beautiful - especially the Ffjords. It can be expensive though, so keep that in mind if you disembark.

Go anytime dining, not a fixed time

I like a cocktail on the back of the boat mid-afternoon, but might be a bit cold where you are headed

cruising

try to find the right ship and cruise line that suits you.

some will be up market and you will be expected to dress accordingly.

other cruises less so.

but you will find one that you enjoy

Get to the ship as as early as possible on day one (ignore any specific boarding time, no one will turn you away and tell you to come back later). You will then be able to explore the ship whilst it's relatively quiet. You won't be able to get to your cabin straight away, but the buffet and bars will be open.

If you like a drink then seriously consider any drinks package. You can buy it in advance or on the boat. If you by it on the boat you can use any onboard spending money they have given you to offset the cost. Having done around 20 cruises, it is very rare that I have bought anything on the ship except booze and pamper packages.

If you want to book into the spa or retreat/pamper packages, book it early or in advance. Another good reason to get on board early and avoid the queues.

Take a few washing capsules so you can wash your clothes during the trip.

If in doubt.... ask. The staff are always very friendly and are used to first time cruisers.

Remember that on the last night your casses will be taken from your cabin to be offloaded in the morning. It's a good idea to have one hand luggage style case for the things you will need overnight or first thing in the morning.

And the biggest tip of all, enjoy it. Cruises are fantastic holidays and orway is stunning. Say hello to the Seven Sisters for us
