Scruffy Murphys is a decent rock bar, Subside is pretty good too

For rock, Subside is generally recommended. It's a bit rough-and-ready, mind.

Otherwise, see if there's a gig on. Usually is something e.g. at the O2 or the sunflower lounge

Wherever you end up I suggest that you visit the Medicine Bakery (New Street) for breakfast/brunch.

It's a beautiful mezzanine level café with high vaulted ceilings, caramel-brown leather banquettes, chunky tables, nestled amongst the potted foliage...serving the most exquisite food.
