South Korea Birth Rates
Jump to: Newest in thread
News that the South Korea, famous for dog cuisine, have opened up new fast trains from Seoul to the suburbs which they hope will increase the bith rate which is low in that country because males will spend longer at home and service their wives more often
Was this David Cameron's hope for his high speed trains linking the affluent south to it's poorer counterparts in the north. Is it called levelling up for a fresh gene pool of southern men to lift the north and simply breed in more ambition? The HS2 project is stumbling. Are the hopes of Northern women crumbling with it of escaping the soot and mills? What's going on here.? It's all over the news |

Yes, HS2 is now flaccid Tom, it seems that the south can’t get it up. Not past Birmingham anyway. |

So if South Korean birth rates continue to drop, I wonder what does that mean for the future of the country against the North? Do they just hand it over to the Kim family because there's hardly any people left? Something to think about. |

Maybe they should send HS2 there? |

"News that the South Korea, famous for dog cuisine,
What a very nasty opening statement.
Why? They are famous for the canine culinary delights."
Really?
And nothing else?
Pop culture… technology… cosmetics.
It’s just another defamatory opening statement to court attention.

I agree. It is inappropriate. Should have mentioned famous for Kpop and left at it that. |

For the record. Tom has nothing against eating cats, dogs or most eats. He draws the line at snake meat and shark. Take a straw pole of English and most people associate Korea with eating dog rather than Boots No7 lipstick. Order a hot dog from a street dog vendor in Seoul at your peril |

Tom's openers are getting more and more needy, aren't they. After the food bank jabs, this is pretty mild. |

How can the truth be defamatory? |

This is Tom's take on it. In Korea they eat dogs. If that offends you then criticise Korea and not Tom.
Now when Tom says Korea, he means South Korea. Not everyone in South Korea but certainly more prominently amongst the older generation. The youngsters, prefer McDonalds and KFC.
Now recently, they passed legislation in relation to eating dogs in South Korea. Tom cannot recall what this set to achieve but he guesses that eating dogs was not made compulsory. In North Korea, Tom does not know if they eat dogs. Lots of propoganda around that country. If they are as hungry as the propaganda suggests then probably no dogs left.

The truth being that they're "famous" for it? Lots of people/things/places are defamed well enough that they become famous for it.
The truth being that they eat dog meat? It's not really true, in fact they just banned the sale and production of dog meat completely because the small amount that persists "legitimises" some pretty nasty racial hatred (itself a concerning move, if you think about it). |

What exactly is wrong with eating dogmeat ? It's just the meat from an animal like any other animals. In England they tend to eat beef lamb chicken pork.
In South Korea they have loved eating dog. They are famous for it. Not infamous. Tom does not care if they eat camels...
Hope you enjoyed your weekend |

So, just to be accurate. Are dogs consumed in South Korea?
We both know that this is still happening. People are allowed to breed their own dogs for meat. It’s just breeding for sale that’s banned. Eating dog meat is perfectly legal in South Korea.
As we both know they do, then it is not a defamatory statement.
There is no racial hatred here, just facts and truth. |

It's not illegal to eat your own dog in the UK (there is a semi-regular moral panic about it). But this "fact" is regularly used as a way of dehumanising South Koreans (and east Asians in general), which is why it's generally seen as race-baiting.
I don't really agree with your assertions on defamation, but would you be more comfortable with "incendiary"? Since Tom seems to be using this as a way of stirring up controversy - the fact has nothing to do with the point of the thread and, again, it's a common race-baiting tactic used against South Koreans. |

I'm not sure about the necessity to add the dog cuisine statement. If people don't know Korea as a country then that added 'fact' isn't going to help them gain any insight into the actual question that is being asked in the thread.... |

Yeh, I'm pretty much between "fuck it, these threads are just bait" and "if nobody says anything then we all agree this is okay".
It's not okay, and I'm tired of this being part of the culture. |

The pasta bake and which cheese topping peak Toms interest more
Tuna pastabake is a favourite of his. Wo betide that offends a peskytarian... |

Just curious. |

They are just for bait aren’t they, that way if you disagree with them the wrong way, you end up being the person in trouble and punished for it. But we shouldn’t let people just say anything they like that’s xenophobic, transphobic, racist etc just because they think they can due to being able to hide behind an online handle.
Anyway as Julie said, it’s been highlighted and I agree with her so I’m out too. |

According to Wikipedia, dog meat is consumed in a lot of countries across Asia and even Switzerland. So can you elaborate as to how South Korea is specifically ‘famous’ for dog meat?! I mean even China has / had a massive Dog Meat festival in the city of Yulin? (Google it) If you’re gonna make a generalised racist comment at least get your facts right?!
Nice try Thomas, better luck next time |

Well its not mutually exclusive. The English are famous for a fry up breakfast but you can probably also get one in Benidorm.

People use negative stereotypes all the time
South west, Norwich Ipswich inbreds, scousers robbers and job dodgers, Birmingham thick people because of their accent etc etc
The op could of went with a positive stereotype like South Korea being known for high end tech people but it probably wouldn’t of got the same volume of replies |
