From what I heard cadburys didn’t do this.

Some corner shop in Spalding advertised them as gesture eggs. Cadburys knew nothing about it.

Apparently

I would boycott anyone doing that. So much ridiculous stuff spouted about constantly. Only someone very sad would want to rename easter eggs. Shall we rename Easter to Spring Celebration Day or something. I don't usually comment or ridiculous stuff like that but there you go. I like Easter and enjoy celebrating it. Nobody forces anyone to do it just like nobody forces anyone to celebrate xams, ramadan, diwali or any other significant days to people. If it means something to someone, then I respect that.

I'm more than happy for those that wish to make a gesture but do not celebrate easter to buy the re named 'gesture' eggs.

It's a brilliant idea to break down barriers for those who imagine they cannot part take because they are not believers.

Great marketing ploy whoever thought of it

In relation to the above thread ....

There's no such thing as 'The Easter Holidays' anymore .... it's been Spring Break for years.

You can call yours that, I call mine Easter. The point I was making is about constantly wanting to redefine or rename things for what? If I want a blooming chocolate I will be a very sad person not to get one because is called an Easter egg.Anyone wanting to think otherwise as slways are very welcome to their opinion.

Same here and everywhere I have worked. Everone I know calls it Easter holiday or Easter break. But perhaps some don't. I can't claim to know it all.

I am out. I have important business to attend to. As is Easter, I am off to enjoy my Easter egg that is patiently beckoning me from across the room. Have fun everyone and a lovely Easter.

Well ..... from ALL school sites under ALL authorities .. it's a Spring Break BUT ..... Easter is in the Spring Break now.

So it says Good Friday and Easter Monday and that weekend is the Easter Holiday but all school sites have it as part of the Spring Break.

It was moved years ago.

Still Easter though..

I always wondered what Easter actually has to do with eggs?

I'm very anti organised religion, so the whole concept of chocolate eggs at a time when a certain religion is celebrating someone being nailed to a cross and raised from the dead always confused me.

So I investigated.

According to English Heritage a lot of it is tied to religion and not eating eggs for 40 days, but there's also a lot of superstition involved too.

"There were lots of superstitions about eggs at Easter too. Eggs laid on Good Friday were said to turn into diamonds if they were kept for 100 years, and if your egg had two yolks it was a sign you would soon become rich. Some people thought that eggs cooked on Good Friday and eaten on Easter Sunday would improve fertility and prevent sudden death, and it became the custom for people to have their eggs blessed before eating them."

Whatever the true background. I honestly couldn't care less what they're called.

As long as I get some chocolate.

Ooooohhh... I always thought it was about birth, and chicks seem to be about in Spring (along with many other babies), and chicken eggs can easily be painted, used for decoration and given to each other...

Ours says "Spring Term" and then start and end dates. No labelling for the holidays themselves.

It's probably also adopted from some pagan thing. Eggs appear in all sorts of spring celebrations, and organised religion spreads in part by appropriating existing stuff.

It seems that it depends on school/local authority.

Some are Easter, some not labelled, only spring term, summer term etc.

I always thought that the spring break was May day Monday... the only non religious bank holiday. Hence the only bank holiday that I insist on observing.
