So today is the date of my dental appointment to have a filling & tooth extracted. As I gag very easily I have to go under sedation. This is how dentists have been for me the last 15 years getting referred by my dentist to a clinic that does sedation on the NHS.A colleague at work said they would never go under sedation in case they didn’t wake up.Me I never think of it like that. How do others feel about sedation would they do or would they feel something could go wrong and they don’t wake up. |

I would do it. There is a very slight risk but there's a slight risk to crossing the road.
I've had quite complicated eye surgery with sedation (a couple of tablets) and I remained conscious so it was fine. I had dental surgery sedated, went right off asleep and it was fine.
Good luck for your procedure. You're in safe and experienced hands |

I've had it done many times for alsorts of things. It's much easier for you and the dentist to get through the procedure quickly than having you panicking and having to stop all the way through your treatment.
Be brave, don't worry and life will be fine. |

There's a difference between sedation and general anaesthetic.
I've been under general anaesthetic, as has one of my kids for major medical issues. I'm sure your colleague would go under general anaesthetic if for example they were undergoing surgery of any sort. Don't let others silliness make you worry before seeing the dentist. Good luck OP I'm sure you'll be fine |

Thanks to all who contributed I have had the dental work done under sedation. I can’t remember getting into the cab getting home but I have slept for a few hours. The right side of my face feels sore / numb but I have antibiotics so hopefully that should work. |
