"Not seen the first one but caught most of Maverick the other night and really enjoyed it.
I'm very disappointed "
I know, I’m not proud of it. Let me know when movie night is and I’ll be there |

It’s a typical Hollywood sequel, think more about the money than the story/ character.
Maverick will be the next Rambo or Rocky or Fast and Furious with its endless sequels till they get silly, but for now give the audience what they want bangs, crashes, pretty people and planes. Then let’s do another film that’ll make a load more money, how about another Tom ?
The annoyance is they could’ve given a great story arc for the character, a chance to catch up with this young hot shot from the 80’s instead they gave us another franchise film.
Imagine if they’d really done something with the character in the film, Maverick realising his life and career has led to nothing but he has one last chance for it to have some meaning. He could do something heroic as a last gasp for redemption for his stalled career but no, think about the bottom line, Hollywood. It’s food for accountants not food for film lovers.
The film was Ok, nothing special and that’s what’s annoying I loved the first film, made me join the military myself. But this film ruined what made the first memorable it’s just another money making film with no artistic direction or a love of the first film and the character it’s just a money grab. |

Watched it at the cinema and absolutely loved it and watching it again tonight and they nailed the sequel.
It gave me the same feeling as watching the first - gripped me and made me feel nostalgic.
A near perfect sequel.

Just had it on in the background whilst working.
My bugbear?
From the point Tom Cruise starts the countdown to the target and sets it for 2 minutes, 30 seconds.......it actually takes them 4 minutes and 20 seconds to get there.
And yes. I'm a sad twat who had a stopwatch on his phone going to check.... |

It's pretty good. Some amazing flight / combat scenes although scriptwriters did seem to forget that aerodynamics and physics are a thing lol.
Put that aside if you can and it's a pretty good way to spend an evening with a bucket of popcorn |

It's porn about aircraft. And very good at it.
The storyline is jingoistic nonsense, but with some touching elements that go back to the first film. The Iceman bit was a good touch.
If Biggles had been from the US of A that's the film he would have been in. I enjoyed it |
