I’ve just had 36 hours on full pay waiting for a job.

Keep the phone handy and do my own thing but be within 2 hours of base station.

Also nice to clean my house and do my chores whilst getting paid.

I did but packed it in a couple of weeks ago i mean on call i was expected as soon as my day shift finished at 4.30pm to carry on as long as they required me i mean i could do 19 hour days or finish at 4.30 am and although they had a respite situation it didn't operate after the 4.30am finish lol it was a joke, i got paid well and i enjoyed the team i worked with but you just got used and no thanks for what you did, suppose most jobs are like this these days

I do, on call shifts part of contract and don't get paid particularly well! Oh and I have to stay at work when on call.. but actually, I love my job x

Yes, law enforcement in South Africa. Always meant something exciting (and dangerous) was going on.

The work is it's own reward

(the money is also good, mind)

Years ago I used to be the key holder and alarm callout for a chain of local sports shops. I got called out at all hours of the night when the shop alarms went off, which invariably were false alarms. Didn't get paid overtime or any extra allowance for it, the tight bastards just used to give me time off in lieu of the hours I'd spent on actual call outs

Alicante, Spain. (Sometimes in Wales)

I work in the adventure travel industry and basically I could be needed at any time of the day. But apart from some late finishes, it's never been an issue.
