Loneliness....

Hiya everyone,

I made a big move a month ago 250miles across country. I am feeling quite lonely as I have moved away from all my friends and family. I am in Sussex now, would love to talk to people? I'm not bothered about distance, it doesn't necessarily have to be sexual....just looking for companionship and friends. I can travel for the right people.

Also regarding this, has anyone else been in a similar situation and anyone got any ideas on how to make friendships and build relationships....I used to find it easier but as got older I find it harder...

Hope some people can help me, it's a slow grind being on your own in a new place....

Join some clubs? People with similar interests are a good start.

Hey OP and welcome to the forum. I was in your position a couple of years ago and struggled a bit - good on you for reaching out.

Some ideas:

Join a club (sports, book, chess, anything)

Make the most of the forum on here

Most dating apps these days also have friendship functions

Get social with people at work

Good luck!

I relocated 120 miles to a new area where I knew no one. Part time work in a pub, joining the gym and a couple of local hobby based clubs and I now have a strong friend network here.

It can feel daunting at times but honestly, I’m not even 18 months on and I love it. I hope you find your feet and settle soon

I've never used it but Meetup was a very popular site/app for people to meet others with similar interests, even meet people branching out into new ones

Thanks pal, that’s very kind. I’m actually back ‘home’ now and no longer alone.

Another one for you OP - get stuck into fab socials. There’s always something going on, especially as you’re not a million miles from London.

Same as others have said here..

Go to a local local pub chat with people, join a gym and talk to people, even better if you have an interest in which you can join a club and meet people.

The only other thing I would say is (I say this as a generally solitary surfer yoga person) don’t feel that you need others in your life if through mindfulness and searching you kind find peace and happiness in yourself life will always be happy

Yes I know the feeling. I recently ran away from a long term marriage. I now live over 100 miles from family etc.

I have joined clubs have good neighbours, but there is something missing. I have met the odd person on here and enjoyed meets on my own, would hope to meet someone to join me, am I asking too much. Have I got to get used to being lonely?

All over

Not a great feeling but some are quite happy to be alone and not feel lonely. Others find it very difficult but need to grab the opportunities to get to know people whether is your neighbours, people at the pub or the odf one yiu might chat at the bus stop. There are organised local activities too and clubs, like walkers etc . A shared hobby always good to start a friendship with. I am sad when I hear people feel lonely, nobody should have too unless they are happy being alone.
