A mother who wanted to breastfeed her child in an establishment on an island called Guernsey, which was home to the TV detective called Bergerac, was asked to leave..
Now Tom likes to see tits in public.. play by their rules and not ours .. |

I had the same experience in 2002. It had got better by my second one in 2017/18. But still not devoid of weird staring. |

I do think sometimes breast feeding women may need to be a little more discreet. I have seen women with all of their full breast fully exposed for the entire feed which may last an hr or more.
Is that really necessary to expose the full breast when there's so much 'clothing' now to assist breastfeeding.
I have witnessed men looking lingerly at women breastfeeding in public when their breast is fully exposed & I did actually think are they perving a mother feeding her baby.
On one occasion my partner even said to me is that really necessary when he saw a woman with her whole breast fully exposed for the entire feed. She left it exposed even when winding her baby, the feed lasted well over an hr.
Op has even said he "likes to see tits in public.." when he wrote his intro comment on his breastfeeding thread. I wouldn't like to be watched breastfeeding in public & I personally would not expose my entire breast for the whole feed. But that's just me. |

"Should the women be more discrete ?
Absolutely not, men should grow a set and realise that a baby needs to be nurtured"
When I breastfed my children, it was the women who seemed most put out. Some would look down their nose, tut and mutter unkind comments under their breath. Not that you could see anything anyway, it’s not like I was topless doing the feeding. |

I can’t believe this is still an issue! If it offends you when a baby is feeding, why not simply look away. I swear, some people just love to be offended and can’t just keep their opinions to themselves. STOP STARING YOU CLOWNS! |

Whenever I have seen a woman breastfeeding I look away pretty quickly. I don’t want to make her feel uncomfortable. But it sort of makes me feel embarrassed.
I don’t know why.
Especially when they saw me looking. I don’t think it’s sexual in any way. The thought of it makes me feel queasy. But nobody should tell a woman to stop. |

We have to respect the local culture.
In India where I grew up, breast feeding was the norm. But women wearing jeans was frowned upon. Skirts - don’t even think of it.
Now in uk there are sessions to train women how to breast feed. |

I breast fed all 4 of ours, albeit 2 degades ago.. not once did I have any problems...although I was discreet when in communal areas. At one point I was feeding in my Dad's pub, few people stopped to chat, realised I was feeding and just carried on chatting ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

And now for the facts.
It happened in a holiday inn in guernsey.
She was not asked to leave, she was asked to sit in a corner. The hotel have now apologised.
Trying to blame guernsey / the culture in guernsey, is far from fair or accurate.
The whole thing is a storm in a D cup. |

In fairness…… it wasn’t in a D cup. It was out of it. Sorry I’ll close the door on the way out.
Joking aside, it’s just a normal thing to me. Babies have to be fed and mums shouldn’t have to sit in a quiet corner to do it. |

My thoughts entirely, 18 - 24 months beig breast freedom by our mothers, then a lifetime being wet-nursed by cows... "Bitty!"

The breast feeding is done for the benefit of the baby, with the style of it predominantly determined by the mother, for her convenience and comfort. We should not impose our values on mothers, who are just trying to ensure that they get to live with the same opportunities that we all have. It's a mother's choice and we all should support them.
I never found Guernsey repressive when I was there, so I'm surprised that, presumably some men, it's restricted women's liberty. |

“Guernsey” has not “restricted women’s liberty”. Some twit of a manager in a Holiday Inn made a bad call, and the hotel have now apologised. Why suggest that the whole island is guilty of restricting women’s liberty? Have some common sense and look at what has actually happened |

Not really comparable though, is it. Nobody is “shuddering” at milk being fed to an infant, some people just get excited looking at the dispenser. If the milk was being served in a glass (like we drink cow’s milk) nobody would even notice
Your comparison doesn’t work |

The biological purpose of breasts is to feed a baby.
If baby is hungry, baby gets fed.. if you dont like it or feel the need to stare then maybe you shouldnt be out in public without a responsible adult. |

Same goes for the employee. Maybe the business should be boycotted by everyone with a child until they get their act together... as it sounds like a lack of training issue. |

Restaurants, etc are private enterprises and legally they are allowed to use use their own discretion on who they allow and don’t allow.
This is done so that all eventualities are covered.
Businesses don’t turn away money without a valid reason.
My opinion is there is nothing wrong in breastfeeding the baby. But maybe other clients don’t approve. Local custom and social norms come into play.
Use common sense or judgment.

No "the biological need for a cock" is to procreate.
&
Yes "the biological need of breasts is to feed a baby".
I honestly don't know why breasts (mammary) glands are so sexualised.
In certain parts of the world.... Breasts are not sexualised at all. |

The best way to normalise them is for ladies to walk around topless all the time - everyone will get bored really quickly and it will just become a non issue.

Your desperation for debate, Tom is verging on pathetic at this point.
Those who can't breastfeed for whatever reason are irrelevant to a mum and a baby who just wants food and comfort.
Theres not a woman alive who would deny that when it comes to infants fed is best, whatever their method of choice.
Your desperation to create controversy is quite sad. |

"And the feelings of those who can't breastfeed
Is that not important

Maybe Toms threads not for you.

"Does this STILL happen. For goodness sake. "
Yes, some folk find it repulsive. It is giving a baby what it needs to grow. Grow up nation.
It is like topless men versus topless women. |

"Legally i dont think they can ask her to leave because she was breastfeeding. My wife breastfed in public, as is her right, and only once did someone make a comment. Her reply was "my baby needs food and you cannot stop a mother from feeding her child".
Restaurants cannot discriminate and breastfeeding in public is protected in law by the Equality Act.

Thanks for enlightening the forum.
I checked Guernsey gov websites. They are pro breastfeeding, but did not across similar legislation.
I have come across women breastfeeding here in uk. No fuss from anyone. |

"Should the women be more discrete ?
Absolutely not, men should grow a set and realise that a baby needs to be nurtured
When I breastfed my children, it was the women who seemed most put out. Some would look down their nose, tut and mutter unkind comments under their breath. Not that you could see anything anyway, it’s not like I was topless doing the feeding.
Incredible how something so natural has become uncomfortable and even taboo in modern times "

"As well as feeding infants in public being socially acceptable as a natural act, so should creating them!
Do you genuinely think that a woman breastfeeding is a sexual act? "
Erm... I used the term 'natural act', not 'sexual act'.
I haven't had a genuine thought on here for ages! |

On the subject of breastfeeding, How many of you on here are old enough to remember the classic sketch on 'Not the Nine O'clock News' where Pamela Stephenson came home to a quizzical husband with one breast hanging out (after the 8pm watershed)?
Following his incredulous gaze down to her chest, she exclaimed "Oh, my God, I've left the baby on the bus"!

So it's OK for men to go topless especially in shops i.e. food shops etc but not ok for a mother to feed her baby. The world's gone mad and warped sense of something so pure as breastfeeding xx people just get over themselves xx |

"Should the women be more discrete ?
No they shouldn't. People should be more discreet, mind their own damn business and stop eyeballing mothers caring for their infants. " totally agree mother doing whats natural. |
